Is this Bisque Doll Head an Antique or a Reproduction ?

You are looking at a bique doll head and wondering if its really antique here are some tips to help you. They are not exhaustive and there is nothing that beats experience, but you should be able to weed out the obvious reproductions.

People make reproductions using moulds taken from the original heads - the original heads have fairly deep incised markings and these are therefore transferred to the mould and hence to the new heads. A good artist will always sign (and often date) their work, usually next to the incised copied mark check this first.

There are several ways of telling whether you have an original or a copy if it is not a signed reproduction.

First, nearly all antique heads are made of white bisque which is then completely tinted on the outside to resemble skin, newer heads are often made of tinted bisque, so if the inside of the head is not white (allow for dirt) then it is likely to be a copy.

Second, with experience you can tell by the painting that it is a copy - there are very few artists who can paint reproductions like the originals and they nearly always sign their work. Check on eBay for other examples of the same mould or same maker and look for differences; eyebrows are often a giveaway as they are very difficult to get right, the colour of the mouth, the colour of the skin, the cheek blush etc.

Thirdly, heads shrink when fired, so a reproduction head made from a mould from an orginal head will be smaller than the original - there are often size charts you can check.

I hope this has helped you please contact me for further information and Ill do what I can to help.

Things you never knew your mobile could do.....

Hi,

I found this information the other day and decided to give it a go and WOW it really works. Now put your wallets away because this is free information that I hope you will pass around as much as you can.

In times of grave emergencies

Your mobile can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. The emergency number worldwide for mobiles is 112, if you find yourself out ofthe coverage area of your network and there is an emergency dial 112 and your mobile will search any existing networks to establish the emergency number for you. Interestingly you can dial this number even if the keypad is locked.

Locked your keys in the car?

Do you have remote central locking and have locked your keys in the ignition? Dont call someone to bring the keys to you, simply get them to hit the unlock button whilst on the call to you. You hold the phone near to the vehicle and your cars unlocked. This will save someone driving the keys to you. This is not distance related either so you can be 300 miles away. This really works, when I saw it I had to try it!!

Hidden Battery Power!

Ever had that important pending phone call but your phone is beeping at you because its soo low. Well if you own a Nokia handset simply key in *3370# and your nokia will restart with emergency reserve battery power. All Nokias are built with this reserve which you activate with this command, and the reserve is recharged and reset the next time you charge the phone. This really works and gives an extra 50% power to your Nokia phone.

Want to unlock your networked mobile phone?

Just purchased a mobile telephone that you want to swap to another network? Simply call your network provider and ask them for the unlock code (NOT the SIM2 or PUK codes). This should work as most networks I have been with allow it as long as you own the phone. Never get someone off ebay to get this done for you as some charge 10.00 for something thats ultimatly free.

How to disable a stolen mobile.

Checkyour phonesserial number by keying in *#06# and make anote of the number in a safe place. If your phone is ever stolen simply call yournetwork provider and inform them of that fact and the serial number and the phone can be disabled and rendered useless. You may not get the phone back butat least you will have the upper hand with the thief who cant use or sell the phone.

How toretrieve your phone number.

Have you ever lost your mobile number? Just dont know it or have a new mobile? Dial *#100# and your telephone number will appear on screen for you to pass on to your friends.

Want an acurate time and date?

Simply dial *#103# and the time and date will appearon screen.

Now be sure to bookmark Electro-Books so you can check back on this guide as I learn more and more I will add the details here.

So what are you waiting for... Go try them out.

DO NOT GET SCAMMED BY CHINESE EBAY FRAUDSTERS ONLINE

In the past day I have recieved 11 fraudulent emails from Chinese scammers. By selling expensive items or popular items you expose yourself, but experience protectsyou. Here's a few tips to spot a fake.

1) The sender will tell you of a fantastic opportunity usually regarding electronics.2) The sender is usually Chinese or has low feedback.3) They ask for payment through wire transfer and almostnever accept paypal.4) They may be pretending to be eBay and asking you to update passwords- eBya never do this.

Here are a few examples below:

Some are harder to spot than others, and some are similarbut it is always worth reporting a suspicious email to eBay through the help file or posting it to the community.

Finally, remember, if something seems too good to be true, it usually is.

buyers beware fake feedback and cheap goods

Dont know if you've noticed that there is lots of overseas sellers on here now all with dodgy and not normal names, theres a reason for that as there out to scam you and take your cash. Very easy to spot they usualy have very exspensive items for sale ie: at moment ive being looking at pionner avic satnav units for cars normally cost anywhere from 800 upwards but theese sellers only want 150 or thereabouts so its a scam instantly just have a look at the feedback of a lot of them, notice something about them. yes you've spotted it all from sellers or buyers whove sold bought e-books and thats how they boost the feedback up.

Have a close look at how they want paying no paypal then no good as its bank transfer or western union. Now can you see it all unfolding if its too good to be true well of the time its not and another scammer gets your cash.

always think first and try not to be egged on as we've all heard of the auctions held round the country usually in hotels etc and big adverts in papers like laptops from 50 more like a empty box with a brick in for 50 or who'll give me 600 for this 42"plasma tv. you get it home after waiting till the very end of auction and look in box, now guess what youve bought more bricks/sand etc. well if you want to buy bricks go to b

User tries to get replacement for item I DID NOT SELL

The user samsps1 contacted me to say that i had sent wrong perfume to her and would I send the one that she had paid for. I had no record of dealing with this "buyer", however I trawled through all my records (I also keep transactions in book form for cross reference).I could find no record after all this and duly emailed back stating this, surprise surprise, NO REPLYfrom SAMSPS1,thisuser was trying to con me to try and swap a perfume that she had obtained elsewhere and thought I would "hopefully" fall for the scam without double checking, therefore obtaining a Dearer Perfume in place of a cheaper one. BEWARE this ebay user ------ samsps1---------.

Reproduction Newspapers on Ebay

Many national 20th Century newspapers were reproduced in the 60's and 70's as free insertsfor various weekly magazines; usually these were to illustrate major historical events outlined in the publication.

The editorial content of the magazines consisted of various disasters or triumphs, especially the World Wars. The insertsreproduced were not only British newspapers but also foreign papers, allhad major headlines.

Also many national and localspecial editionshave been and are stillbeing reproduced for anniversaries of historical events.

Usually it is quite easy to spot a reproduction from photographs, especially if the genuine newspaper originally had a coloured logo and this is lacking,i.e in WWII the Daily Express had ared crusader and this continued post war, the Daily Mirror/ Sunday Pictorialusually hadred title letters, post war the letters are white in a red box.The Daily Mail had a red editioncachet or logo to the right of its mast head. Other titles often had colouredcachets e.g Stop Press associated with them eg. Daily Herald and Daily Sketch, but unfortunately not always.

Localnewspapersseldomused colour, so a coloured logo/cachet is a bonus, thereare also nationaldaily papers that rarely or never had a coloured logo.

So acoloured logo/cachetis a good indicator.

But to make life really difficultrecent reproductions sometimesinclude coloured titles (even occasionally when the original title was in black and white!), butthese are adifferent shade and brighterwhen compared to the original. They are generally produced in packs, with a common theme e.g. Royalty, Disasters, 60'setc.They are available for National Curriculum studies and also general interest. These packs are often to beseen on the e-bay site and are really useful for students.

For those papers that usually do not have any coloured markingsassociated with them, it is really difficult to decide from a photograph if they are genuine, especially early 20th century papers, also the Daily Telegraph, the Times, Observerand News Chronical, but there are still markers to look for.

Look at the centre of the paper, as many early reproductions were essentially photocopies so you can see an image of the fold mark of the original paper and this will disrupt the text on the front page and subsequent pages. Also the edge mark of the original paper is obvious as a black line at the top or side of the page, butgenerally this is something you can only judge with the papers actually in your hand. Likewise the printand paper quality cannot be judged from photographs, modern reprints are printed on much finer paper than the originals, which often appeardull in comparison.

If seller has lots of major headlinescheck them carefullyorif the photograph of themasthead is incomplete be suspicious.

Remember that papers produced in the 60's and 70'swill, bynow, have an aged look to them.

Some of the reproductions are not even in a newspaper format e.g. being seperate sheetsor the pages are out of order!

Some anniversaryeditions actually have "reproduced by permission" printedon them!

There is a place for reproduction newspapers, especially for teaching purposes. As a collector I avoid them, but it is so easy to get caught out from a photograph.

Also remember too thatthese were free with the magazine or special issue, so do not pay an exhorbitant amount for them!

I have always founddealers to be honest and quite shocked whenthey findthat the item isnot quite what it seems, but as a collector for 40 years I know what to look for.

I believe that there is something quite special about an original newspaper, as you are holding a little piece of history and reading about a unique moment in time!

I also feel that these reprints should be described as such and not passed off as genuine to the unwary.

kawasaki kmx 125/200

The KMX 125 and 200 do not have shims in the powervalve and they are not adjustable. To raise the output remove the collar from inside the exhaust where it joins the barrel or buy and aftermarket exhaust. This does not apply to the 200 as it is not restricted. The 125 will probably put out no more than about 24 horses after this if you are lucky. They are fast but don't be fooled they will turn into some kind of rocket.

Amorphophallus and other Aroids on eBay

Caveat emptor

Buying Amorphophallus and similar plants on eBay can be a slightly
risky business, I often see people getting conned into bidding on a
single seed with a phenomenal starting price, sometimes even when other
seed of the same species is available for much less! This guide sets
out to arm you with a little extra knowledge of the genus.

The following Amorphophallus species can probably be purchased with a certain amount of confidence on eBay:

konjac
bulbifer
paeoniifolius

konjac and bulbifer are probably the two most commonly grown species in
the UK, paeoniifolius is less commonly grown but often imported.
Because of this the tubers don't generally command a high price, unless
unusually large, and are quite regularly available between autumn and
the beginning of summer. Watch out for claims of "Flowering Size" tubers, some species flower when small but Konjac, for instance, will likely have a hefty postage cost for a genuine flowering size tuber as they're often in excess of 5 inches across at this stage.

When buying other species do be a little more cautious, if the listing
has a picture of the tuber in question you may be able to look up the
species at http://www.aroid.org/genera/amorphophallus/amlist.html ,
just incase the tuber differs considerably from the one shown on the
IAS site.

Amorphophallus Seeds

Growing Amorphophallus from seed, if you have the patience, is
an excellent way to discover less well known species. Unfortunately
Amorphophallus seeds lack an endosperm layer and the seed coats are
rather thin, these two factors cause problems when trying to store the
seed by conventional means, unless kept moist and/or refrigerated,
Amorphophallus seed can easily desiccate and once dry cannot be
successfully rehydrated.

The image below, unfortunately scaled down by ebay, shows seeds of A.
kiusianus side by side, the first 3 have been kept carefully and are
just beginning to sprout, the other batch have been at room temperature
in a grease-proof paper bag. Unfortunately a lot of seed sellers on
ebay are probably unaware of the storage requirements for
amorphophallus seed and may inadvertently sell seeds which have long
since ceased to be viable.

child room barriers

Quick temporary child or pet barriers/gates in minutes!

Some metal safety gates take time to measure and install. I have one top and one bottom stair gate and its the opening and closing them with your hands full, balancing my child in one hand or on the hip. They can also be a hazard if every room in the house needs a barrier or gate and dont forget the most important ones are proper metal gates for the stairs.

I prefer my child to be in the same room as myself so I can see and hear them when I cook and its not always possible to see and hear them if they are crawlers and/or explorers. Our child loves to play with our computer and desk in the hall so we decided to partially block certain areas. We have 3 rooms down stairs(lounge, kitchen, dinning room and the hall) with 2 door ways each room.

We used my childs height as a guide and the height, that you as an adult, can manage toeasily stepover the barriers. We also measured the width of all the doorways downstairs .Our materials are 4 small wood nails(8 for more reinforcement),hammer, 6mm ply board and sanding paper. Cut the board to size so it can fit in all the doorways comfortably between the door frameso your door will open and close. Hammer the nails horizontally into the doorframe at the top and bottom. You can now slide the board upwards to remove it. DO NOT NAIL YOUR PLYBOARD PERMANENTLY INTO THE POST. I only needed 2 barriers to contain my child in one room while I'm in the next room. I used 4 nails per doorway, 2 top 2 bottom on either side horizontally and are small enough nails not to be noticed. I put nails on all my doorposts so now I just slide in the ply board and its a barrier to keep him out that room or just in one room and its easy to use. You can also have fun painting them .We have used this idea to house train our dogin the kitchenand still have access to the kitchen with ease.

P

If you're not carefull PayPal fees will leave you with no funds to pay for posting a low value item as their % fee includes the total (item price+ postage cost.) Ofcause it is against ebay policy (who own paypal ) to charge buyers to use it. You cannot charge a postage cost based on the precentage of the sale priceIf your posting a heavy item

Top Brand Clothing rip off your money

THIEF ALERT Top Brand Clothing THIEF ALERTAnyone thinking of buy from Top brand clothing should be wary. They dont send your goods they accuse you of not paying postage. They lie. They dont need to respond to ebay when you complain as they are power sellers and ebay wont tackle them as they make too much money for ebay. Hence all the crap feedback they have. Some of the quality (authenticity) of the goods may be suspect also but at the price I wasnt bothered

STAMP MIXTURES ( THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY!)

FACT no. 1. Reason why you buy KILOWARE mixtures! - You are seeking a low cost method of acquiring stamps to grace the pages of your stamp album.- You are willing to work harder ( soaking required ) than the collector who is only buying off-paper stamp mixtures.- You have gaps in your collection that could be filled from this kiloware mixture available on eBay.- You do not wish to spend hard earned currency on mixtures that could contain damaged stamps.-
You are looking for recently postmarked issues, not currently available
from your current stamp club, where you meet every month.- You are looking to acquire duplicates, so that you can trade with your fellow collectors.- You are looking for high values, which currently you cannot find from any other source.FACT no. 2. Reason why I sell KILOWARE mixtures!- I have a source that supplies me with recently postmark issues, which other ebay SELLERS cannot access.- My sources have a limited supply of freshly postmarked issues which they provide to me. It is QUITE limited.- I visit many stamp clubs and many kiloware mixtures are being offered for sale, usually via sale by tender.-
I am trying to help those collectors, who have purchased a kiloware
mixture, have taken what they want and now want to recoup some of their
costs.- I know that, not everyone, as I, have access to these mixtures, so I buy and on-sell them via eBay auctions.- I enjoy working with stamps and all their intricacies therein.FACT no. 3. MISDAVENTURES THAT RELATE TO PURCHASING KILOWARE MIXTURES(I have read what the others are saying on ebay, and here is a synopsis of what irks everyone!!)- Some mixtures have heavy duplication, with the same small definitive stamp represented in quantity.(the sellers failed tro mention that in their description)- Some eBay sellers show the same scan, all the time and state that your stamps will be slightly different.( the reason that they do that is that they want to list many items quickly. So hence they are saving time) - Some sellers place the high value stamps on top, and so initimate that there may be more hidden.( buyers find that there are no surprises, except that the remaining ( unshown stamps) are very common issues)- Some sellers charge a high SHIPPING

NEVER Pay Retail!

This is just a short guide - I would have thought it was stating the obvious, but here it is :NEVER PAY RETAIL.I consistently see people paying more than retail (incl. postage) for Dermalogica products in particular. Why? I don't know. There are plenty of places online where you can buy them cheaper. The sample sizes are super expensive per mL or per gram.On a selfish note, paying MORE than retail drives prices up for everyone.

Sky Digibox Viewing card

There seems to be confusion over viewing cards. Lets end it here. Any sky subscription card will only work with the digibox it was supplied with and will only work as long as the subscriber keeps paying the subscription. The way round this is to buy something called a "Freesat" viewing card which works in any digibox anywhere in range of the satellite (ie Spain, France, UK etc). This is totally transferable to any box anywhere in your house or your mates house because there are no subscription charges. The Freesat card costs between 20 to 35 but there is a catch. Most retailers gaurantee the card to work for 2 years. I hope this helps. Good advice is to throw any viewing card away that you buy with the digibox and buy a freesat card.

find a cheap ps2 games just look in the wrong category

First v Second Class Post in UK - Any Difference?

First v Second Class Post in UKShould you use first or second class post within the United Kingdom? Is there any difference, except for the extra cost. Our sources tell us not!Brief HistoryWe believe that second class post was introduced on 16th September 1968. We guess this was so the Post Office could get more money for its standard service by renaming it "First Class", but it also allowed for bulk mailings sent "Second Class" to be sent at lower rates, but to be handled with less urgency.Separate posting boxes were provided at main "General" Post Offices, and phosphor strips were used on stamps, to help the mechanised sorting of First from Second class. This sorting uses resources, and costs money, so it is possible that it may not have been as beneficial as expected. We cannot now remember, but it must be 5 to 10 years ago that the Post Office started to remove its separate posting boxes. Why? We do not notice phosphor strips any more, either. No DifferenceAccording to a number of sources within or connected to the Post Office, there is now almost no difference between First and Second Class, as far as service is concerned, although there remains a price difference. The one area where a service differential still exists is in bulk-mailed items. Direct Mail is a big industry. Some mailing houses may need delivery on a specific day, or very quickly, and be prepared to pay for First Class, but most would prefer to pay a lower price, and can plan their mailshots in advance. They often pre-sort, saving the Post Office much work, and this helps them to negotiate lower prices. For the typical consumer or small business, posting normal quantities of mail, there is almost certainly no difference in the service, or speed of sorting or delivery between First and Second Classes. It is hardly worth the Post Office's time and effort to sort the two classes. This means that all mail, whether sent with an expensive First Class stamp, currently 32 pence for up to 100 grams, or Second Class costing only 23 pence, is very likely to receive the same service, and be delivered at the same time. The difference, nine pence, may not sound very much to some people, but for a business sending out 100 letters daily, the difference mounts up to 1,000 per annum. For heavier items, the price differential increases, but even at the starting price levels, 9 pence represents an increase of 39%, or a saving of 28%.Service

Poultry Cigarette Cards (Collectables) 1900s-1930s

Poultry Cigarette Cards (Collectables)

I've been collecting and selling trade cards, cigarette cards andrelated collectablesfor over twenty years. Before you read this guide please subscribe to my card collecting newsletters for updates on rare cards and tips on buying by Clicking Here, thank you.

Poultry breeding was extremely popular in the late 19th century and early part of the 20th century. During the heyday of poultry shows, there were many different poultry breeds that came in numerous colourful varieties. The prices of breeds fluctuated like stocks and shares.

A combination of misguided breeding and a shift towards mass production in farming led to the near extinction of many of the original breeds. Fortunately, there has been a resurgence of interest in old poultry breeds recently. This has been fuelled by a concern for the welfare of battery hens, a need for biodiversity to combat genetic diseases and a growing market for more traditional foods.

Tobacco and other companies issued cards on many topics with their products from the 1870s-1930s, generically termed cigarette cards. I've listed a small selection of poultry cigarette cards below. I've provided scans of a sample card from each set and I've tried to list as many card titles as possible.

Get rich quick schemes!

There are hundreds and thousands of auctions on ebay telling you:

"you will get rich if you do this""a millionaire in a year""want to be as rich as me? well now you can!"

Many people know these are all just scams. But if you are thinking of bidding for these, then here are some reasons not to:

1. Why would the person be selling the idea on? Surely the seller would have tried it - and obviously didnt work!

2. Youre giving your hard earned money away for an ebook, that usually has 70 pages filled with rubbish.

I once bought one of these money making ebooks, as i was rather curious what it will say.The seller bragged "no postage rates" as it will be sent through email. When i recieved the email, it was 88 pages long, and the first 30 odd pages were telling me what to do. It was as useful as a chocolate kettle!

Remember, they always say you will:"get rich quickly""hardly any work""no selling or buying""no cold calling"

So ask yourself - what will you be doing!?

camping with children

We've found that low tents cancause children to feel ill, probably due to lack of fresh air, you don't realise how much carbon dioxide is exhaled in a confined area, even with vents. Now we have a larger tent with room to stand up in, we don't have the sickness problems any more.

Mirror Dinghy Restoration

Mirror Dinghy Repair Many people regard plywood dinghies as lesser mortals of the sailing world. However what is forgotten is the fact that they have lasted 30yrs and were protected with materials far inferior to what we have available today.Too often Mirror Dinghies have seen neglect in their life, together with maintenance using very poor materials. One such example is that shown below which fell into my hands recently. I will attempt to give a step by step guide to her restoration and return to the water. Her sails and spars were in fine condition however the hull needed urgent attention.1) carefully remove paint and varnish with Nitromoors craftsman (yellow can stripper)2) carefully cut out any rotten areas of ply. this one was lucky she had about 5 relatively small areas of damage.3) Decking has been stripped and cleaned in the above photo, with any rotten ply removed. Hull can now be turned over, brass rubbing strips carefully removed, and the yellow paint stripped off.4) Ply patches were scarfed glued into three areas with epoxy resin, where the boat had suffered damage beaching. 5) Hull is now carefully sanded back, repairs faired in and a sheath of light grp cloth applied so as to just cover the tape on the main chine which was sound. See photos below.6) With the bottom of the hull now solid and rigid, it was turned upright, and attention paid to the gunwales. This is an important area on a Mirror, in that the gunwale firstly provides rigidity to the structure. Secondly poor glue joints and coatings allow ingress of water in this area often fatal for the ply. 7) The next step was to remove the gunwale and inwale, very easy as most of the glue joint was broken. The inwale was cleaned up and repaired as necessary whil'st the gunwale itself was replaced. Both were carefully glued with an epoxy fibres mixed. Knees at transom and bow could then be replaced.8) The interior of the hull could now be retaped as necessary and preliminary coats of varnish applied.9) Hull was now turned over again, and any necessay filling and fairing done before it was painted with epoxy primer as photos below10) Epoxy primer was now flatted back with 240 grit dry paper, and two coats of 2-pack polyurethane applied. Now to finish the interior and fit out.Guide to be continued (Will start work on a Mirror 16 shortly, this will also be featured as a guide)

Powersellers Suspended From eBay

Powersellers Suspended From eBayAccording to eBay, most "Powersellers" get suspended from eBay, or have been suspended. Does this give you cause to think twice?Who's To Blame? If an eBay member is suspended, whose fault is it? Is it because the member is doing something wrong, or is it because eBay cocked up?If it is due to the member's behaviour, what was the problem?ReasonsThere appear to be five main reasons why an eBay member should find his account suspended. These are:1 Selling Counterfeit, Fraudulent, Stolen or Mis-Described GoodsJudging by the number of eBay items with obviously misleading descriptions or titles, this is one of the less serious reasons as far as eBay are concerned, and eBay will only suspend a seller if enough other members complain. 2 Failing to pay eBay fees on time. This seems to rate highly, as if eBay selling fees are not paid on time, then the account is suspended, and no further selling activity can take place.3 Repeated Copyright ViolationsUsing other people's copyright images, text, and sometimes copying complete eBay listings will result in a ban, at least if you get reported enough times, possibly three or more. Of course, if nobody notices or complains, then you can get away with it indefinitely. The reason that eBay will suspend or terminate you account is that if they fail to do so, they themselves could be held responsible for permitting, or failing to stop, the violations, and they could be sued for large amounts of money. Courts may decide to award actual and punitive damages, and eBay would have little if any defence, and would almost certainly have to pay the other party's legal fees, which could run into hundreds of thousands of dollars or pounds.4 Whistle BlowingOne of the quirkier eBay rules is that members may not contact each other to warn about other members suspected of fraud or selling counterfeit goods. Anybody caught doing so will have their account suspended or terminated. This strikes us as very unfair indeed, and we wonder if it is because eBay are making plenty of money from the crooks? 5 eBay's Incompetence or NegligenceeBay have been known to suspend members by mistake, and we believe it is quite common, They probably also do so out of fear. Because there are few if any checks when members first join or start to sell, and eBay suddenly notice that a member is selling large volumes or values of goods, they are likely to panic and suspend a member, then ask questions later. Our ExperienceOur company has been selling coins and bullion since before 1964, well over 40 years. We are properly incorporated, file annual accounts, and our current turnover is around 10 ($20) million per annum. We registered with eBay in 2001. We started slowly, mainly offering 10 to 50 repeatable items. It took us some time to set up an administrative system for our eBay sales, which take about twice the work compared with our normal direct sales. Once we thought we had got it about right, and had installed and trained some semi-dedicated eBay staff, we started to offer many more items, and also increased the price levels, for example 500 krugerrands in one lot which equals about 170,000 on current values. One Sunday, when our office is closed, at about 4 a.m. UK time, when we are in bed asleep (we do not trade 24/7), we received an e-mail from eBay demanding that we reconfirm our personal membership details. Even if we had seen them, we would probably have assumed it was some kind of phishing scam. This was followed about half an hour later by a second e-mail telling us that since we had failed to respond to the first e-mail, that our account was suspended. A third e-mail followed telling us that they were sorry this had been done in error! It took us hours of telephone calls and work before our account was de-suspended on the Monday, and we got no satisfaction or good explanation from eBay for their mistake. At the time, we had about 260 auctions running, each with an average of about 10 bidders. One of the most annoying aspects of this is that eBay automatically e-mail all the bidders, to tell them the account is suspended, and advise them not to complete any transactions. It is not surprising then, that about 2,500 people, all potential customers, think there is something bad about us, and we firmly believe that under the circumstances, eBay should have e-mailed all the bidders to state clearly that it was their fault and not ours. Their initial negligent suspension, and subsequent failure to publish an apology and correction is in our opinion defamatory. Perhaps we could and should have sued them, the main problem with this it that legal action is very expensive, and should not be undertaken lightly against people with more money than yourself. As we estimate eBay to have about 4,000 times our resources, we have not yet taken any action. Was This Guide Useful? If you found this guide interesting, informative or useful, please spare few seconds of your time to vote for it by clicking on the "Yes" button below, thanks. Facing The Facts with Cosmetics :).

If like me you have been browsing ebay for some time wondering how you can tap into the market and make a profit yourself then you may find my guide useful. I have been buying/selling cosmetics for a number of years and it has not always been easy and took a few months to get things right so here are a few tips to help you on yor way..............

Do not buy endless lists stating they can give you wholesale secrets or buy into "drop ship" schemes. All the information you need is on the public domain and using different methods within the search engine will enable you to find these suppliers yourself. Any reputable drop-shipping company will not ask you for a sign up fee. After all you are advertising there goods so why should you pay for that privelidge?, most reputable suppliers will also have a "no minimum order" service.

When buying cosmetics off ebay either for yourself or to sell on be safe and check the items are within date and are legit, do your research and after checking the contents of my own makeup bag to those I have purchased on ebay I was astounded how many products were fake or out of date. An example, a Mascara will dry up and have a distinguished smell when it has gone past its use by date. Cosmetics are after all intended for the face which is the most sensitive are of the body so please ensure you test any products you are unsure of on the back of your arm and leave for a short while before using to ensure you have no reaction to the product.

The trends within the health and beauty section moves extremely fast, always alternate what you are selling. When competitors see a particular item is selling well or the method you use is selling your products quickly the market will soon be flooded with these products/methods so always try and keep one step ahead. If you have found your supplier then check the retail price on ebay first, you may find you can get the items cheaper on ebay rather than from the suppliers. One supplier I used became so popular on here everyone was using them and if you keep your eyes peeled for those bargains you can as I said earlier get them cheaper on ebay.

Start looking for items after christmas, from Sep/Oct the prices start to rise in the build up to Christmas, after then the prices plummet. Look for the bargains in January and hold onto the stock but please remember to ensure the products will remain within date.

Some products do not have dates on them but it is easy to establish which are old stock. Nail VArnish for example can split with an oily residue on the top, a good shake-up of the bottle and the product is as good as new.

I hope you have found this guide useful and if you have any queries regarding wholesalers etc please contact me through ebay's messaging system.

The Greatest Ebay Sting.

So you set up your account, you list a few things and think - Hey this works and the prices aren't bad either!. It's all the Ebay sweetner to get you in.

You open a shop - to avoid the big listing fees andit's all rosey - So whats the problem now? Whats gone wrong?

It's a combination of thingscombined. Ebay are always striving for initiatives to take that little bit more from your profit and boost theirs - after all they are Gods and can do what they like - or sothey think. If you add all the little charges up they come to a whopping 10 to 15 percent of the total price sometimes - and a lot more on the cheaper bread and butter items.

They purchased Paypal and overnight doubled their takings (then they increased prices and made so many regulations that it's tighter than amillitary convention in Iraq, IN THEIR FAVOUR not yours (note the subtle you can claim up to $500 (doesn't mean you are covered by the way - just means if they can get it back you get it back and if they can't you're stuffed)- you try and recover money after a loss - I have and failed. Then Ebay add little things - then charge for each one eventually - the gallery picture, a little pink hi light, buy it now etc etc. If I were to rent a shop to you for say 50.00 a week with the advantage ofa high street postion and pleanty of advertising space then overnight say right I'm bricking up your windows and doubling your rent the law would be on my ass quicker than aCow pie downDesperate Dan's throat.

One things for sure - so many people around the world rely on Ebay , Ebay should look after them as they are Ebay, they make it what it is. The sooner Ebay is regulated to protect sellersfrom overnight hikes and ridiculous fees the better.Ebay has gone down hill and the spiral needs to stop before it's too late. Sellers in the categories I like have abandoned it , they don't try and sell quality items as the fees and prices mean they give away their goods - 3 Years ago and more Ebay was on the winning streak. Now it's losing the heads and God like figures that control Ebayshould re-evaluate whats gone wrong and bring back the old winning formaula.

What DVD Disc For Use with Camcorders

Generally, 8cm (mini) DVD-R/RW discs, that have been developed based on the DVD Format Standard as well as its recording format, should have no problem recording and playing back on Sony DVD Handycam Camcorders and those made by others such as Hitachi and panasonic.

The Newer Hitachi and panasonic camcorder models also use the mini 8cm DVD-RAM (single sided 1.4gb/double sided 2.8gb) formats which are re-recordable.

(Look for 'camcorder use': just because package may state for 'data and video' use does not guarantee will be compatible on most camcorders)

There are some discs on the market from other parties that do not have sufficient quality and performance. Use of these discs can cause the same types of problems that occur with discs contaminated with dirt, dust, and fingerprints. (or Camcorders firmware may not allow disc to be recognised at all, as manufacturer does not rate for use as low quality.)

Best rule is to purchase premium quality discs from manufacturers such as Verbatim, Sony and Panasonic , especially for Re-Recordable discs which will be used again and again. After all you want to capture those precious memories when they happen and not be let down by your recordable media.

PRADA FAKE FAKES BAG GUCCI LOUIS VUITTON FENDI COACH LG

Prada Spotting the Fakes!

Don't get fooled with cheap Asia-Fakes anymore! You have a buyer protection garanty when you buy over ebay and pay with paypal . Internet platform is polluted with fake-sellers who advertise their products to be authentic Prada. Especially in the new collection the label protects itself through hightech features on their products, which are almost impossible to copy. So be aware of those signs of authenticity for Prada, and check out our list below, if you wanna be sure to buy the Original, and to be absolutely sure- next time buy at our shop!

Prada - Signs of Authenticity (Bags, Shoes, Wallets)

- Autheticity Certificates: authentic Prada products come with two certificates. One of them is a plastic card. On ist back you can read : Art = Model nameMateriale = material nameColore = colour nameTaglia = sizeBelow that two sentences and then:Negozio = shop (blank)Data = date (blank)

The second certificate is made of paper and on the back it has some more informations about the product:On the upper left : Articles name (i.e. Cinture for belt oder Portafoglio in Pelle for leather wallet), beside that the size if given.Art = Model nameColore = colour name Group Name = Article group nameBelow that there is a bar code, which has to contain the model name given above!- Material: authentic Prada bags, shoes and wallets are made of the finest materials in excellently crafted quality. You can see, feel and smell that! Prada is famous for their innovative use of a wide variety of very high-quality materials for their handbags. Below is a list of those materials

Bufalo= Buffalo LeatherCanapa= CanvasCinghiale= Wild Boar SkinCoccodrillo= CrocodileDaino= Deer SkinFeltro= Felt (usually made of wool)Lucertola= LizardNappa= Full Grain LeatherPelliccia= FurRaso= SatinSaffiano= Textured LeatherScamosciato= SuedeSpazzolato= Polished LeatherStruzzo= OstrichTessuto= Woven MicrofiberVela Sport= NylonVernice= Patent LeatherVitello= Calf Leather

- Triangle Logo: Most bags have the Prada triangle logo outside, usually in the center on the front or on the side; some style will have the logo affixed in the back. The logo should be attached securely on all three corners to the bag. If you run your fingers across the logo, you should be able to feel that the letters and symbols on the logo are slightly raised. The colour of the enamel on the logo must match or be very close to the colour of the bag. The placement of the letters, their size and spacing are all proportionate to each other. Some style of bags will have Prada embossed on the bag instead of the usual Prada triangle logo.

- Interior Plaque: The interior Prada metal plaque has to be firmly attached to the lining on all sides. You will be able to feel a piece of backing material underneath the plaque. All 4 corners have to be rounded. The colour of the enamel on it must match or be very close to the color of the lining. The color on the rim of the plaque (gold or silver) must match the color of the hardware of the bag. The placement of the letters, their size and spacing are all proportionate to each other.Prada wallets will have Prada - Milano embossed on one side and Made in Italy on the other side. All wallets are lined in either textured leather (Saffiano) that is excellent at resisting wear and tear or smooth Calf Leather (Vitello).

- Lining: Prada bags are lined in the following types of lining material: Prada signature fabric = Usually in black or coordinating color with the word Prada and a symbol that looks like a sideway letter S woven throughout.Vitello= Smooth Calf leatherRaso= Satin

- Hardware: Hardware used in Prada products comes in three colours: Silver-toned, Gold-toned, Rose colour-toned. The bag's hardware will have one of those colours, never a combination of both or all colours. Hardware on authentic bags is marked with the word Prada very cleanly (the embossing on counterfeits looks messy and not clear at all).

- Zipper: Prada products will have zippers from one of the brands listed below or a combination of them:Lampo (without the lightning bolt)IPIriri

In some purses and cosmetic bags the zippers are just plain and not from any these three brands. Newer bags used mostly metal zippers on the outside and inside. Older bags used plastic zippers on the inside.

- Dust bag: Prada bags come with a white cotton dust cover (that looks and feels like felt) with the Prada logo embossed on the front in black with drawstring closure, inside the dust cover there is a tag that says Prada - 100% cotton - Made in Italy. Older dust covers color is navy blue with Prada printed in gold color ink.

ATTENTION: Since the fake producers sometimes manage to copy one or two of these authenticity signs, make sure that all of them apply to your Prada product!

Silver Vesta Cases

Vesta Cases

AGuide by Karen Freeman

Vesta Cases were invented in around 1840 and were made to house friction matches. These pocket-sized cases took their name from 'Vesta', the Roman Goddess of the hearth and home. A 'match' was known as a 'vesta' up until the twentieth century when 'match' became the favoured term. It became essential to carry the vestas in a case as they were highly flammable and needed to be kept dry. The inside of the case would often be gilded to protect the silver from the sulphur head of the match, which would otherwise tarnish the silver. These small cases were initially adapted from snuff boxes, with the addition of a serrated striker. Vesta cases were in great use between the 1860's and 1940's as smoking became increasingly fashionable. They were carried predominantly by men in a waistcoat pocket or on a 'double Albert' chain, which held a pocket watch on one side and a vesta case on the other. The invention of the pocket petrol lighter initiated a decline in the need and use of the vesta case, during the first world war soldiers found the petrol lighter lasted longer and was easy to refill. The vesta case can be found in all shapes and sizes, with engraved, chased or enamelled decoration and they were made from a variety of different materials.

I show below photos of a common example.

You will see most vesta hallmarks are stamped just inside the lip where the lid joins and because they are usually protected they do not get rubbed or worn.

The majority of vesta cases were made and assayed in Birmingham, followed by London and then Chester, by makers such as Joseph Gloster, Deakin

Buying Bunnykins on Ebay

Revised guide - July 2008

This Ebay guide is for the Royal Doulton Bunnykins DB series, first produced in 1972. The range is currently up to DB458 (Old King Cole) although not all of the numbers have been allocated. There is a great range in price with the commonest bunnies selling for around 10, and the rarest for several hundred pounds. So how do you get your bunny for the best price and what should you look out for?Well, there are some tips and hints. Firstly, the obvious, look for auctions that end at odd times. Look for auctions with misspellings in the title, or are perhaps badly described. It is not uncommon for auctions to be simply titled Royal Doulton Bunnykins Figure. Be aware though, these auctions can get good prices, as bargain hunters usually spot them.Be aware of how much the bunnies usually sell for and search internationally for the higher priced bunnies. Sometimes they sell for lower in the US and Australia, but be aware of shipping costs and Customs charges (17.5% plus handling fee). Some bunnies sell best in a group, for example the Australian Games bunnies make about 150 as a group, and on their own they make about 20 to 30. Some are the reverse, the Red Oompah band can be picked up for as little as 150, and sell on their own at about 35 to 45.So where can you find more information on what price they sell for and details of Bunnykins produced. Well, there are some good starting points, for example, the Charlton Guide, Royal Doulton Collectables is an excellent reference guide with details and photos of all of the Bunnykins including book value. With the exception of the rarer Bunnykins, the book value is usually much higher than you should expect to pay on Ebay, for example, for example, DB25 (Cymbals) book value is 65, compared to an average Ebay price of 31 (no reserve auction price).

My website (see my ME page) also has a list of the complete Bunnykins range from DB1-DB458 (note to Ebay, I do not sell Bunnykins from this site!).

What should you look out for?

For the cheaper Bunnykins any major damage renders them almost valueless. For the rare Bunnykins, it will reduce the value but not to the point of no value. If buying make sure the listing states no damage (or similar), if in doubt ask the seller to clarify.

Is it a second? Seconds are those items the factory does not feel meet their own quality standards. Royal Doulton sells them but it is possible to identify as there will be a scratch or drill mark through the Royal Doulton mark on the base. Occasionally the piece may also not carry the Royal Doulton mark.

Example of second marked with drill:

Example of second marked with scratch (not a bunnykins backstamp)

Boxed? If a listing does not state that the item has a box it probably hasnt. Quite often you will find the box is not original. If it is important to you that the box is original make sure you confirm this with the seller.

Certificate of Authenticity? Most of the recent Bunnykins have these but they were not issued with the earlier models (DB1-100 approx did not have certificates). Again, if it is not stated on the listing, check with the seller if this is important to you.

Made In China - a lot of the newer bunnykins are made in China. Often they are not marked as such on the base and will say 'Designed in England'. All bunnykins made in England have 'Made in England' on the base. Check the listing for a photo of the base or ask the seller if in doubt.

Seller terms and conditions. All good Ebay sellers should be able to guarantee delivery of the item and offer a no quibble refund. Avoid the sellers that do not offer this.

Finally, I have seen a few listings claiming that most of the bunnykins on Ebay are fakes. This is rubbish, the only fake bunnykins items I have seen are the bunnykins thimbles set (not Royal Doulton), and Dracula and Nelson Bunnykins produced by Little Acorns Pottery (fake but rare and valuable!).

Happy Collecting!

Restriction of paypal account

Yet another 'beware paypal' message. I have been trading successfully on ebay for over a year and have kept my nose clean (currently 100% feedback). Last Sunday 21 May it suddenly restricted my account - a 'security measure' apparantly. Paypal asked me to carry out the extended use procedure on my principal credit card but this is impossible to do. Extended use is only possible when a new card is added. Paypal already have two of my credit cards on their system - is that not enough. Having spoken to my bank and credit card companies they say there has been nothing unusual about my card spend. I now am left with 30 overseas customers who can't pay for their items so I am over 1000 down. When I contact paypal I get the same inane message, ie the lights are on but nobody is at home.

I have read other threads whereby sellers have expressed concern at paypals dismissive attitude to merchants. Given paypal is an ebay company and it is us who are paying their fees their attitude must change. In time they won't be the only company to offer secure online financial transactions (no - I'm not talking about Western Union etc). Well as I disatisfied ebay seller and paypal user I shall be keeping my eyes out.

EBAY !!! Please Help Genuine Buyers And Sellers!!!!!

As an ebayer with a respectable feedback record and having done over 100 deals with both buyers and sellers I was dismayed by the complete lack of proper accountability within the ebay mechanism as a whole.About 8 months ago I bid on and won a motorcycle jacket fairly and squarely which according to the sellers listing I must pay for via cheque.I wrote the cheque which was to the value of around 30 and posted the next day first class. As the cheque was being posted to Bristol and posted first class I assessed that deal completion would have taken around 10-12 days in total which allowed for postage both ways and cheque clearance. To my dismay 3 weeks had passed and still no jacket.I contacted the seller and requested more information. I was advised that the following day the jacket would be sent and that the delay was due to the sellerbeing on holiday at the time of the listing end which I was slightly confused by as the cheque had been deposited the day after I had sent it to them. But still I thought at least its on its way now. WRONG!!!! Another 2 weeks passed and still no jacket at this point I contacted ebay requesting their assistance and recovery of my money. As it goes ebay were absolutely powerless or completely unwilling to resolve the issue and protect a paying customer in full. Ebay advised me that because the item had not been paid for through Paypal I was only entitled to a part refund and that I would have to pay ebay a fee for this part refund. Disgusted with the whole scenario I boycotted the worlds best marketplace and left negative feedback for the appaling seller only to have negative feedback left for me . Which begs the question what is the point of the feedback system if it does not reflect the facts. When are ebay going to be in a position to affiliate themselves proactively with genuine customers with proof of payment in a deal that goes wrong. When are ebay with the profit they make from every single transaction and listing fee received going to put their bread and butter`s needs ahead of their own and their shareholders. I would like to see them adopt a policy of complete accountability and a refund mechanism which is coherent and secure. Buyers have a legal right to fair treatment but if this is not the case then sellers who blight this auction site with poor quality service should have their ability to leave reactive feedback removed and suspend their ability to sell until issues are resolved in full. Ebay are in a position to post feedback of their own stating that the buyer has reported the seller with validity, the buyer has proof of payment, and ebay are seeking a refund on behalf of a genuine buyer. I wonder how many items would be lost in the post if this were the case. Please be rest assured that untilthese points are investigated ebay will never be a safe place to trade.

Kerbsidemotors early Mini alternator fitting guide

Converting from negative to positive earth and fitting an alternator.

The following procedure is the way to carry out this conversion on a Mini. The procedure will be pretty much the same for all late 1960s and early 1970s British cars (I.E. Ford, MG, Morris Austin, Rootes)

Fitting an alternator will make the car more reliable as the AC current from the alternator is more stable than the DC from a dynamo. This conversion also makes the sometimes unreliable control box redundant.

Converting the car to negative earth will allow you to connect modern stereos, electronic ignition, modern fuel pumps etc. Also because of the way the electrons flow the car will not rust as fast!

Another point to consider is while fitting an alternator increases the reliability it removes some of the originality. This could affect the price of the car.

What you need:

An alternator. Lucas 16ACR (Or similar recon) is probably the most suitable. 18ACR and 20ACR will fit too but because they generate higher current they may cook the wiring!

Alternator terminals. Supplied with genuine new Lucas alternators (

Disney Pirate DVDs - How Sellers try to fool you.

Sellers have become very clever in their efforts to pass off an import or pirated Disney DVD.

With many original DVDs being out of print, for a couple of pounds, they can make

How to spot a fake Disney Animated Classic DVD, with auctions advertised as:

1) Region 0. ALL Disney DVDs are region 2 coded. They have never produced Region 0 in the UK

2) DVD may differ from photo. Cheap import or copy

3) E-mail me if you are not sure what you are buying. Illegal pirated copy.

4) Posted in plastic sleeve to reduce postage costs. Illegal pirated copy.

5) 99.99% from sellers from Asian Countries (Thailand, etc) are illegal pirate copies.

6) Two of the WORST offenders are POWERSELLERS using 1 day auctions to sell their pirated copies.

7) Not a copy, but a factory produced import. Still illegal pirated copies no matter how it's listed.

8) 4 films on 1 DVD, etc. Illegal pirate copies

9) Region 2 imports. No such thing. An import is an illegal pirated copy.

10) Hologramed import. No such thing. Genuine Region 2 DVDs ONLY have a hologram

11) Platinium editions. No such thing for Region 2. Region 1 DVDs only are platinium editions.

12) DTS banner across the top of the front of artwork. Illegal Asian copies.

So, there you have it. Plenty of information to avoid being caught out!!!!

Top Ten Tips for Painting with Acrylic Paints

Learning how to paint is an exciting hobby, but it can be a bit daunting to start with. However when you choose to use acrylic paints you have chosen the best possible option. No smell of thinners (that you get with oil paints) plus the ability of reworking areas in the painting (that can be difficult in water colour painting). Here are my Top Ten Tips for Painting with Acrylic Paints1. Acrylic paints dry very quickly so always replace the tops back on the tubes of paint. Paint drying in the tube is annoying and a waste. The bottom of the tube could be cut off and some paint rescued, but it is easier to get into the habit of replacing the top every time. 2. Acrylic paints are water based, and the brushes are cleaned using water. However, once the paint is dry it forms a impermeable skin. Therefore when acrylic paints are dry they can be almost impossible to remove (depending on the surface). 3. It is important not to let the paint dry on the brush, if it does dry on the brush the brush will need to be thrown away. During a painting session rinse the brush and store the brush in a shallow tray of water, on its side to avoid damaging the tip. Any residue of paint in the brush will be kept wet. Give the brush, or brushes, a good clean at the end of the session.

4. Buy good quality nylon brushes. Good brushesgive a better result. Nylon brushes can be stored (on their sides) in water, but other types of brushes would be damaged by this treatment. 5. Buy or make up a reservoir palette. A reservoir palette has a damp reservoir and a paper palette for the paint. This keeps the paints damp and stops them from drying out. It is a good economy measure. The Acrylic Painting Course tells you how to make up your own.6. Get into the habit of placing the colour in the same position on the palette every time you paint. This will save time looking for a particular colour while painting. 7. Do not use acrylic paints over oil paints. Oil paints, and any surfaces that are oily or waxy, will repel the water in the acrylic paints, and the paint will not stick to the surface. 8. Thin coats of acrylic paint can be used to give a watercolour look to a picture. The thin layers will have the transparent quality of watercolours.9. Applying acrylic paints thickly will give a textural oil painting look. Use the paint thickly in the foreground of a picture for texture and to give depth to the finished painting.10. Acrylic mediums can be used to extend the different effects that can be achieved with these paints. For example - glaze medium can help to produce a watercolour effect. Glaze mediums are available in both gloss and mattfinishes which will give different results to the final picture. There are also gel mediums and texture paste which will give extra body to the paint for three dimensional effects.

fake g-star 96 elwood jeans

item that i had bought, notice the 96 logo,

i just recently bought two pairs of g star jeans, one from a reputable seller, the other a seller with no feedback. the first pair i received firstly in a sealed plastic bag saying g-star on it. now i work for next in the stockroom and every item that we ever receive always comes in the same way; sealed in a bag saying 'next' on it. now, the secondpair had come in abag that didn't say g-star. the first impression i had was this was going to be a fake.

iopened thebag and inspected the jeans. now my brother is one that has has forked out the full price of these jeans in shops soi compared them to his. i found many differences, obvious ones. the stitching of the 96 logo was very messy with bits missing. the small rectangle logo saying 'g-star originals raw' on the back right hand pocket; the font waswell off and alsohad a 10 over it , never have i seen this before, and again, an original pair didnt. i inspected the care label and it was all written in chinese and english. the english grammer was poor for a start and i spotted a spelling mistake. the original pair was written in many languages and had about 5 labels in like a notebook form. The tag that had came with the jeans also easily confirmed this was a fake pair, the entire tag was written in chinese, however i did spot an email address in english saying evergreengmt at hutchcity. The buttons on the back pockets of the fake pair said 'g-star 5620 -96' wheras the original said 1996 g-star elwood. Furthermore the material was very hard, the originals are very soft and comfortable.

i hope this helps everyone out there!

Radley Walkies Handbags and others

Do not pay more than 25 for these bags. They only cost this amount in regular shops i.e. Debenhams, John Lewis. They are also available at this price via internet sites (regular small outlets) and with no postage to pay!

In general be informed of prices before you start bidding else your 'bargain' may turn out to be at an inflated price.

I am neither a dealer or shop but just a Radley devotee.

Should I buy a HDMI DVD player?

The simple answer is that spending extra money for a DVD player with a HDMI output just isn't worth it. Wait for HD-DVD or Blu-ray players to come down in price, these devices will look a lot better than DVD and can use the digital signal more effectively.Pro:Simple connection to "HD ready" TV/monitorsCons:No CRT (cathode ray tube) TV set supports HDMI Picture on LCD/Plasma is still blurryDVD resolution is far lower than the resolution of a HD signal so the picture is not improved.Upscaling technology makes no improvement to the movie (only the player's menus are sharpened)HDMI is a requirement of HD sources such as SKY/Telewest HD boxes, the next-gen consoles (PS3/Xbox360) and next-gen video players (Blu-ray/HD-DVD). HD-ready TV sets will only come with one socket so why waste the feature on an incapable DVD player?

unreservred items not reaching sellers price relisted!

i won an auction item for 99p inc p p no reserve.you can imagine how happy i was, paid immeadiately via paypal and eagerly awaited my item, after a week i contacted the seller who said he had posted the item so i waited after another week still nothing so i emailed the seller again who replied the item has been posted if i dont recieve it next day he would refund me my 99p via paypall.

then i looked for another item to replace the lost item only to find the seller re listing the same item again with a higher price!! He obviously never posted it the first time so i contacted him again and asked how if he sent the item he has still got it to sell??

his reply was new stock!! an unusuall item in an unusuall colour!!

i contacted ebay about this to be told they cannot make the sellers post items if they dont want to and to leave appropriate feedback!

i couldnt belive it that that was the only option i could take so i left feedback saying never recieved item only to find the item relisted after a refund then i recieved a stroppy email from the seller saying he cant understand my feelings of being mis treated and left me bad feedback saying im a menace to ebay!

surley if ebay is a contract to buy it is also a contract tosell!

Irish War of Independence Medal and 1916 Rising Medal

Within the last five years we have seen a serious incease in the value of medals relating to the Irish Volunteers/ Irish Republican Army. I remember 10 years ago buying an original War of Independance medals with a Comrac bar for as little as 25 pounds ! Now a nice original example sells for around 500.00 .Sadly within the last few years many serious collectors like myself have noticed the high number of high quality copies now coming on the market. Some years back I spoke to a guy in Austrailia who was making these copies. He was selling them as copies and in no way tried to pass them off as originals. I could not believe the quality of these when I handled them for the first time. They were excellent. I compared them with medals from my own collection and it was scary just how good they actually were.Like any rare and collectable item, collectors are keen to get them in their own collection and will pay any price. The demand for these medals have sadly seen an incease in the sale of copies being sold off as originals. Last year I saw a number of copies sold on ebay. A keen eyed collector will know what to look for such as the ribbon that is used, the pin on the suspension bar and if you compare one to the original you will find it slightly smaller.Over the years I have been contacted by a number of collectors who noticed these copies for sale. It is not our place to contact bidders, but it is sad when you see someone pay 500.00 pounds for a medal worth 15.00 pounds !It is now even more alarming to see that copies of the very rare 1966 Survivors Medal are also turning up on the market, with hallmarks !All I can advise is you show caution when buying any of the above medals. If at all possible ask can you visit the seller and see the medal and if you know a collector who has an original go see it first.I bought a two copies of the War of Independence medal and a 1916 Rising medal for 25.00 pounds about five years ago to compere them. These were sold to me as copies. After I finished my study I destroyed them. So 25.00 for the two is their worth so please be very guarded out there.

Creating Beaded Necklaces

Creating Beaded Necklaces with Beadalon Wire
Overview

Necklaces (and Bracelets) can be strung on many different cords or wires. However, over time, we have focused on making our own Jewellery using Beadalon brand stranded wire. Why is this? Well, Beadalon is very resistant to wear and tear (it will not fray like Silk or Nylon thread), it comes in many colours, diameters and is avilable in 3 levels of flexibility - 7, 19 and 49 Strand. Please see our guides on 'Beadalon Wire' for more information. For now, we will focus on just making a well-made necklace!

What do you need?

A length of Beading wire to suit the required length - plus approximately 1" for making the ends
(optional) 2 off Wire Guardians
2 off 6mm Jump Rings
2 off Crimps
1 Clasp of your choice of type
(optional) 50mm Extension chain
Making the Necklace

Choose your lengthEveryone one has their own favourite length of necklace, so cut a piece of wire about 2" or 5 cm longer than the finished length.

Create one end to attach to a clasp - or a Jump RingThe simplest way to do this is by threading a crimp over one end of the wire, loop the wire back on to itself, passing back through the crimp. Simply pull-up the slack so that the loop is about 4~5mm diameter, and then squash the crimp. guide to crimpingAn alternative way to make the loop, which gives a much neater, professional looking and far more durable result is to use aWire Guardian. Place your crimp on the wire, pass the wire through the Guardian and back through the crimp and crimp!

Thread your Beads! The hardest bit of making a necklace is always in deciding on your Beads and layout. This is very much a personal thing. You can seperate beads to leave gaps, holding them in place with crimps or Beadfix. You can also seperate them by 'looping' beadalon around each Bead. This is particulary good when using the the thinnest (0.010" or 0.012" Beadalon). Remember though, if you do this, you must allow for extra length of wire required - it can easily be trimmed later.Once your Beads are threaded, you can finish the other end of the wire. Just repeat the sequence as in (2), but as you pull the wire together, check the length. The finished length of the threaded Beads, with loops, needed to be about 12~18mm shorter than the finished length with clasp.

Attaching the ClaspOpen a Jump-ring - just enough to pass through your loop/Wire Guardian and chosen clasp. Thread the Clasp and loop into the Jump Ring and close it.

Completing the closureOn the second end, now open the second Jump Ring and thread the loop onto it. At this point, you can also thread your optional 'Extension chain' - typically this will enable you to expand your necklace by up to 5 cm or 2 ". Now close the Jump Ring and your necklace is complete.

We hope this brief guide has been helpful. Of course, all of the components used can be found in our Shop

We really appreciate your feedback and ideas for improving this guide. Please also take a look at our other guideswhich we hope to add to at your request :-)

Sizing and fitting for Birkenstock

It is important that you get the right size and fit of Birkenstocks by selecting the right size and following our tips on how they should fit. This will also prolong the life of your sandals and you will ejoy them much more.

ALWAYS try on, and break in your shoes on carpet. We cannot out accept shoes back that show signs of being worn. Check out our returns policy for further information.

Trying your shoes on

When Buying Birkenstock footwear, please ensure that you are getting the correct length as well as the correct width. To check that you ahve the right size, place your heel within the foot cup (the lower part of the footbed); your foot should fit inside the edges of the shoe with a few millimetres at the front and back of your foot. This allows for movement while walking.

Your toes and heel should NOT touch the rim of your sandals while you are standing in them. The extra room is needed to perform the natural rolling motion of the foot without restrictions - just as if you were barefoot.

The contours of the footbead should follow the curves of your foot. The raised arch might feel unusual at first, but the arch support will feel less pronounced as the cork/latex footbed moulds to your foot.

Regular or narrow?

Even with foot health sandals the right fit is important. Therefore the Original Birkenstocks footbed is manufactured in two widths. When purchasing your Birkenstock sandals, ensure that you get the correct width.

Birkenstocks are designed to be roomy. When you first try your sandals and shoes on, they might feel big. Most people are fine with a regular fitting, but if your foot moces from side to side when you walk and adjusting the straps does not help, then a narrow fitting might be more suitable.

How can I tell if a shoe is narrow or regular?

Birkensotck uses a footprint symbol to determine width. If it is filled in it's a narrow width,if it is an outline, then it's a regular shoe. Product codes for narrow shoes end in 3, while regular sizes end in 1.

How do I decide if my feet are narrow or regular?

It's really an individual thing. Generally, if you always wear narrow shoes, your feet are not wide across the toes and you consistently hear comments about your slender feet, then you're best off with a narrow shoe.

Tips for sandals

When fitting sandals, the strap closest to your toes should fit comfortably, but not tight. The other straps should be more loosely fitting to allow your heel to lift slightly off the footbed while walking. Birkenstocks should not be tightly fitting.

Tips for shoes and clogs

Slip the removebale footbed from the shoe. To check with whether your shoe is the correct length and width, stand on the footbed and inspect the fit. Toes should not hang over the edge and the aches should folllow the contours of your feet, as described above. Reinsert the footbed into the shoe.

Tips for children's footwear

We find that most kid's feet are best suited to the narrow widths. Birkenstock footwear may not be suitable for children under 3 years old.

Alan dart gnomes knitting patterns

I have noticed that the patterns from alan dart are going for quite a lot of money and thought people would appreciate to know that the magazine that originally published the pattern has done a reprint and is offering it at 3.50 all you have to do is write a cheque and send it to them. It is always worth checking as when a pattern is very popular they often do a reprint.

Hope that that saves you knitters some money to buy more wool :)

Car Diagnostic Tool Compatibility Guide. 1996 or 2001?

Why do OBDII and EOBD tools not work on all cars from 1996 in the UK and Europe?

Information provided by Gendan Limited / Ebay Car Diagnostic and Fault Finding Shop

Some of our most frequently asked questions on our OBDII and EOBD tools are:

"I have seen these/similar products advertised as working on all 1996 and newer cars - why don't yours?"
"I've just bought an OBDII/EOBD tool from someone else that was advertised as working with all 1996 and newer cars. Why doesn't it work on my [1999 Vauxhall Vectra]?"
Here is the answer...

In 1996 in the United States, a Federal Law came into force requiring all US-sold cars to be OBDII compliant (On-Board Diagnostics Second Generation). Most OBDII tools are therefore advertised as working with all cars from 1996.

The OBDII Federal Law applied only to cars sold in the US.

In the UK and the rest of Europe, our equivalent law (European On-Board Diagnostics, or EOBD) did not come into force, and more importantly, was not fully implemented by our car manufacturers until 2001 for petrol cars and 2004 for diesels.

Where an OBDII tool is sold in the UK/Europe claiming to work on all cars from 1996, this is highly unlikely to be the case.

Even where a seemingly identical car may have been sold in Europe and the US before 2001, from our testing and research, it is rarely the case that the European model will be OBDII/EOBD compliant.

The fact that we sell these tools as only working with 2001 and newer petrols (and similarly 2004 diesels) is due to the fact that we are being honest in the coverage, rather than simply duplicating the sales information from the US.

So do these tools work with any UK/European cars before 2001?

Yes they do, but certainly not across the board, and very rarely back as far as 1996. A few manufacturers that we know have some OBDII/EOBD support (on petrol models) before 2001 are listed below:

Ford - most petrol cars using the EEC-V engine management systemJaguar - most models from the beginning of the X300 seriesVolvo - some modelsUS imports from 1996 (e.g. Lincoln Town Car)

A few examples of manufacturers that we have had very little success connecting OBDII/EOBD tools on pre-2001 models are:

DON'T BUY NUMBERPLATES ON EBAY - ILLEGAL ACRYLLIC

DON'T BUY NUMBERPLATES ON EBAY - ILLEGAL ACRYLLIC

Be Very Careful about buying Acryllic Numberplates on Ebay, 99% of these are illegal and the sellers are actually breaking the law by supplying numberplates without seeing documents. There are over 25 Sellers of Acryllic Numberplates on Ebay, and most of them don't tell you the following.

All UK Numberplates must now show the name of the manufacturer of the plates and their postcode.
Many are using sub standard materials which are not conforming to BS Standards and could be a serious hazard on the roads as they are not reflective.
Illegal fonts are in use which would contribute to the failure of a vehicle when it is MOT'd
It is unlawful to display any symbol on the left of a numberplate, so numberplates which show Football club badges, Bart Simpson, or the large symbol of car are not only illegal but also in breach of copyright laws.
The Weather proofing of certain numberplate systems is questionnable, many manufactures are using a system on an OKI Laser Printer which has not yet been approved for use on cars, as the plates are not weatherproof - just jet wash them a few times and you will see them peel.

Visit the DVLA Website to find a proper Numberplate supplier - why not support your small local independent Motor Factors shop and stay within the law.

If you are unsure call DVLA on0870 240 0010 and ask them if what the Ebayer is selling is legal, believe me it more than likely isn't, most are only suitable for OFF ROAD or SHOW use, so unless your car is permanently on a race track - DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Breast Milk. Increase your supply!

One of the most common reasons for giving up breastfeeding is: I didn't have enough milk. He was always hungry.

In the short term this may be true, but there are things you can do to increase your supply to satisfy your child or children. Mothers are able to successfully breastfeed twins/multiple babies so it must be possible! Fair enough if you're physically too tired to be able to do the necessary to increase supplies, and lack of sleep reduces milk anyway, but if you're determined and able then it can be done. Also talk to the right people to get support. This does not necessarily mean doctors and midwives, but people specifically trained in this area, ie breastfeeding support workers in the National Childbirth Trust. There will be someone local to you.

Try these things to increase your milk. It will take about 24-48 hours to have an effect, then you have to keep using the extra supply to maintain it.

Skin to skin contact with Baby. The more you keep baby next to your breasts, the more milk your body will make.
Put Baby to the breast as often as you can. Every half an hour if you like. The more you do, the more milk you will make.
Express milk. Use a breast pump. And even if nothing is coming out, keep going. You will only make more milk on demand. If you don't ask your body for it, it won't come.
If you do use formula sometimes, get your partner or a willing helper to feed Baby, while you express. If you feed formula and don't express, you're not going to make that extra feed Baby needs. It will only come if you ask for it.
Put Baby on one breast and express from the other. This often makes expressing easier.
Express from both breasts at the same time. Try a double pump.
Express in the small hours of the morning, especially if Baby has formula at this time. This is the time which most stimulates milk production. Sad but true. Yes, I know you'll be exhausted. I've done it myself and couldn't keep it up for long but you don't have to. Once your supplies have increased, keep breastfeeding Baby and the supplies will stay at that level, and increase when Baby needs more.
Try a herbal supplement. Fenugreek is supposed to help increase milk supplies. It works by making sweat glands (the nipple works in a similar way) more productive. So you smell for a couple of days!! but once supplies have increased you stop taking the capsules. I have tried them and in about 24 hours there appears to be an increase.

Finally, you can't beat rest and sleep for milk production. Oh, wouldn't a couple of extra hours every night be nice!!!

This guide has all been written through personal experience. We (partners play a very important supporting role in breastfeeding) have breastfed 3 babies in the last 3 years. Number 3, Sarah, refused to feed for the first 2 months so she had expressed milk in a bottle. Suddenly she decided to breastfeed and continued to feed happily, solely on breastmilk until 5 months old.

I would be happy to discuss any of the suggestions or issues raised here. Alternatively, if you have ideas to add, get in touch.

And most of all, GOOD LUCK!!

Looking for a Sony Ericsson k800i? BE CAREFUL

With the Sony Ericsson k800i so hard to get hold of the perfect place to look for one is eBay.

However, while browsing the Sony Ericsson k800i listings I noticed an alarming amount of auctions simply selling a wholesale list orweb link where you will have to payto enter into a pyramid/matrix scheme or worse stillan 18 Month contract that you will be billed for Monthly.Obviously there are going to be some very disappointed peoplewho think they are buying the actual mobile phoneand this will only damage eBay's reputation. However, most of the the listings clearly state what the item is and some would say if you are stupid enough not to read the item description properly there is no wrong doing. I would have to disagree as the titles and descriptions are misleading and it is a scam.

So what can I do to avoid being scammed?

First of all make sure you read the item description carefully, especially the title.
Check the sellers feedback, if they have made their feedback private this is a sure sign of a scam. Also a low rating should be approached with caution.
If the eBay account is new be suspicious.
Check the sellers other items for sale. Most sellers will only have one Sony Ericsson k800i for sale. More than one could be a sign of a scam. Unless the seller is registered as a business seller.
Use the 'ask seller a question' feature. A genuine seller will respond.
Use PayPal for payment. This protects you as a buyer.
Use common sense. If it looks to good to be true it probably is.

As long as you are careful you should have no problems and you will get that Sony Ericsson k800i you have been after.

HI THERE A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THAT THEY CAN REMOVE A NEGATIVE FEEDBACK HERE ARE A COUPLE OF WAY:

FIRST OF ALL THE ONE THAT DOES NOT COST ANYTHING IS CALLED MUTUAL FEEDBACK REMOVALNOW THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO REMOVE YOU NEGATIVE FEEDBACK BUT BOTH PARTIES MUST AGREE TO REMOVE FEEDBACK. ONE OF THE PARTIES MAY DO THIS HOWEVER,IT DOES NOT MATTER WHICH ONE SENDS THE MUTUAL FEEDBACK REQUEST ,ONCE THE OTHER PARTY HAS AGREED TO REMOVE IT THEN THAT'S IT, BOTHYOUR FEEDBACK'S WILL BE REMOVED.

YOU WILL FIND THE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK REMOVAL WHEN YOU CLICK ONFEEDBACK FORUM WHICH IS JUST ABOVE YOUR FEEDBACK MEMBER PROFILE,THEN CLICK ON FEEDBACK DISPUTES AND IF YOU SCROLL DOWN YOU WILL FIND THE FEEDBACK MUTUAL WITHDRAWEL, IT IS GOOD IDEA TO E-MAIL THE OTHER PARTY FIRST TO SEE IF THEY ARE WILLING TO REMOVE THE FEEDBACK. THE OTHER WAY IS THROUGH SQUARETRADE WHICH YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR.THIS METHOD IS REALLY WHEN THE OTHER PARTY WON'T ANSWER ANY OF YOUR E-MAILS YOU WILL FIND THE SQUARETRADE LINK AS ABOVE, I HOPE THIS WILL BE HELPFUL IN SOME LITTLE WAY,HAS IT'S NOT VERY NICE WHEN YOU ARE LEFT A NEGATIVE FEEDBACK

What are Plug In Wiring kits for Towbars?

Dedicated Towbar Wiring KitsThis guide will explain the need for these dedicated/specific wiring kits to be fittedon newer vehicles when installing a towbar, so the next time you are planning to install a towbarstop and think about your vehicle's electrical system or you may be walking intoagiant of a problem.Did you know that vehicles fitted with Electronic Stability Programmes (ESP)as part of their Adaptive Driver Assistance features, in many instances offerwithin ESP a Trailer Stability Programme (TSP)which alerts the vehicles ESPfacility to counter the weaving and snaking effects of a caravan or trailer when towing. What you didn't possibly know isthat this TSP systems lie undetected in the vhicle software untilone of these kits is fitted and bought into operation when the vehicle detects a trailer or caravan being connected. How does the vehicle know a trailer/caravan is connected?Detection of a trailer or caravan happens in a number of ways but the most common is via signals being sent to the vehicles CAN bus system generated by a unique towingmodule which is recognised by the central computerand becomes active as soon as a trailer or caravan plug is inserted into the electrical socket.Be Aware of Bypass RelaysIf a Standard wiring kit or bypass relay based wiring kitis used on a vehicle with these complex wiring systems, the vehicles ESP facility will not function at all as it has been bypassed hence the bypass relay therefore the TSP and other safety featuresystemsare unable to be activated and will NOT function. CAN Bus SystemsCAN BussedSystems (Controlled Area Network)allow the manufacturers to reduce the cost of construction by replacing yards of wiring harnesses, a single pair of wires became sufficent as the transmission medium and because CAN's are now used in hugh volumes, all the components are extremely affordable. Its high transfer rate and high transmitter reliability, as well as the ability to recognise data error makes it ideal inelectrical noisy environments, where earthing can be a problem. The idea behind CAN is simple. Instead of connecting everything to a central control unit through a main wiring harness, each component in the network has its own processing and communication capabilities with one data channel connecting all units. In automotive CAN applications, the instrument panel, power windows, body accessories and even man sensors and actuators all have their own individual mini control unit. All the units, called "nodes" communicate with each other through a single pair of wires. These are know as the "data bus".All the data on the bus is addressed to a specific node or group of nodes by function, not location. The relevent nodes respond to a particular pre-programmed protocol. For example the vehicle speed sensor will put its data on the bus, and every other controlled unit that needs vehicle speed information will recieve it directly without having to go to the PCM (Pulse Code Modulator) for a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) signal.Because there are multiple nodes sharing a single bus, every data package includes a priority code. This will ensure for instance that if the ABS control unit and the lighting unit both send a message to the PCM, the critical ABS system message gets to it first.CAN technology will significantly reduce the number of connector pins and wires in the vehicle. With extra blank connectors built into the network loop, or with a splice kit for adding connectors, nodes can be added on the production line (or aftermarket) without running a new wiring harness. However designers have built in more than one network on the vehicle, linked by gateways where appropriate. The mission-critical nodes will be linked on a high speed class C network that can operate in virtual real-time. Less critical items such as the instrument panel lighting systems will use a slower class B network, and occasionally used body accessories such as power windows are likely to use a class A network.Activated Driver Assistance Systemsinform the driver about all the relevent data being transferred around the vehicle - the corresponding display is then activated either in the instrument display or on a centre panel display. Computers for engines and transmission control or for lighting system management monitor the vehicle using data transmitted via the CAN bus. The systems no longer operate in isolation alongside one another, but can now quickly react to the information from electrical and electronic functions. As a result, effective fault monitoring and diagnosis of the systems are intergrated into the CAN bus, defects can be localized more quickly and even temporarily compensated for by corresponding secondary systems. For example, a faulty tail light function can be temporarily replaced by a brake light bulb. The driver would instantly be informed of the failure to address the problem.Dedicated Towbar Wirimg Kit FunctionsTrailer/Caravan DetectionThis is simplyan element of CAN protocol which is activated usally by the car acknowledging a trialer is connected. This is not done by any mechanical means but by simply inserting the trailer plug into the towing socket. The car relises it has a trailer/caravan and now stimulates certain operating systems to wake up. These systems include:Trailer Stability Programme (TSP)A change to the parameters of the vehicle's Electronic Stability System - the car detects the 'Snaking' of a trailer/caravan ctivating the ESP sensors in the vehicle, it brings the trailer/caravan back under control.C2 FunctionThe C2 function of the trailer/caravan is activated, usally by a double frequency flash rate of the cars indicators, shoulda trailer/caravan indicator fault be detected.Fog Lamp Cut OffThe rear fog lamp on the car is switched off when towing if a fog lamp is fitted to the railer/caravan.These important features and operations will NOT function if the car is fitted with bypass technology used in standard towing electrics. They will only work when they detect a towing module which is sending and recieving signals through the CAN Bus system.
