How To Maximize Your eBay Bids

If you are already an eBay seller, or perhaps a budding entrepreneur, it never hurts to have an edge on the competition. If you are looking to maximize your eBay bids, start by offering a thorough product description. Make sure to note the condition of the product, along with payment options and shipping time. It is a good idea to accept as many types of payments as possible, including cashiers check, money order, personal check or PayPal. By accepting a broad range of payment methods, you will increase the number of potential customers that may bid on your auction.

When listing an auction, include a photo of the item that you are selling. A quality photo can be obtained in several ways. Many eBay sellers acquire their photos through the use of a computer scanner. But, if you dont have a scanner, thats no problem. If youre a good photographer, a digital camera can provide the same results. In fact, a digital camera will be an excellent way for you to photograph the items and possibly add some extra special touches to make the photo even more beautiful. For example, if you are selling sports memorabilia, perhaps you want to include a sports theme in the background or a display to show the details of each item. If you arent comfortable operating a digital camera and still prefer the regular film cameras, you will be glad to know that most photo labs can develop pictures and include a picture CD-Rom with your film developing order. Simply snap the photos using any regular camera and request a picture CD-Rom when having your film developed. Once you have the CD-Rom, you will be able to retrieve the photos onto your computer using the CD-Rom drive.

If you open an eBay storefront, your listing fees will be more affordable and will allow sellers to comfortably list more items for sale. With all of the extra features that eBay offers, its difficult to know which ones work best. In fact, the only way to learn is often the trial and error method. However, there are a few tips that can suggest better exposure at a minimal cost. The gallery feature is widely used and is a bargain at only $0.35. This allows your auction photo to be listed in the auction gallery and, as potential customers scroll the list of auctions, they will see the photo of your product. This is just one more reason to have a quality image. By making your title bold, you may increase the ability for your auction to stand out above others. If you see 10 lines of writing in regular type and one in bold, that one in bold will stand out and catch your eye first. The subtitle feature works nicely, as well, but only if you absolutely need it and do not have room in the title field.

A final way to maximize your eBay bids is one that not every auctioneer has considered. By submitting your auction listing page to search engines, you will be increasing exposure and gaining placement on some of the nets top website directories. If you sell a lot of a similar product and offer a constant inventory, the search engines will recognize your site and place it in the appropriate category. This is a terrific little promotional tool, especially if you plan to sell on eBay for an extended period of time.

JVC DVD

Beware Before You Buy!!!

Just a quick lesson for anyone buying ay electrical goods...check what others think before you buy.

A little research goes a long way, especially where JVC is concerned. It appears that they have had trouble with their recorders for a few years and while some problems have been solved a lot of these machines are still popping up on ebay, as reconditioned or refurbs and look amazing value. Just look at amazons reviews or a several of the AV forums on the net and you will find a lot of unhappy bunnies, with machines overheating, locking up or just blowing a fuse.

I now know because I have one and am in a protracted correspondence with JVC...I will advise further in due course...but it does appear that they have repaired many a machine only for it to go wrong again. One poor guy has had 9 machines in 2 years or so.

So dispite them having some great features, KNOW NOW WHY THEY ARE CHEAP!

Thank you and good night

Heelies Heeleys Wheelies Trainer Skates

I notice today (12th July 2007) on Ebays home page an advert about Heelies and how it can take the strain out of supermarket shopping therefore suggesting that you should let your children skate round supermarkets for fun.

Most supermarkets have actually banned heelies in their stores because of the many complaints received and these horrible things cause many accidents.

Before buying these please think of others especially the elderly and disabled - they are the same as wearing roller skates and you wouldn't take your child to many places wearing them now would you?

Watch out for.....

Seller: njgift - sells CROCS from US. I have had terrible trouble with this seller. Non delivery, ignores e-mails and there are several others who have had the same experience. Beware!

KIRKLAND A4 Glossy Photo Paper. 255gsm. 150 Sheets.

This photo paper is generally sold my an ebay memeber called Misterflipster and is priced at 24.75. A colleague of mine purchased some and told me about it as I am a keen photographer.I thought I would give it a go and must admit before I used it that I thought it would be a cheap unbranded product. Anyway, I decided to try it out after going on holiday and taking a couple of huindred photographs with my digital camera. Now I was generally a buyer of Kodak paper and have been so for about 8 years. I'd tried all the other makes of branded photo paper but Kodak was the best that was until I tried Kirkland. The results were outstanding in comparison with images so much sharper and crisper to the other branded products and have been a fan of Kirkland photo paper ever since. For 150 sheets at 24.75 its bloody fantastic value for money as I was paying more than double that for Kodak for only 100 sheets. Delivery is superquick and is door to door by courier and the courier company is very friendly and courteous.

I recommend anyone who has just bought or has already got a digital camera to try this photo paper. In my opinion, it s the best on the market. I will not use any other brand now I have found this. Fellow photographers at the photo club I attend all ask where I get this from and I recommend MisterFlipster on Ebay.

I just hope this seller keeps stocking this paper for a long time to come.

Royal Mail Post Refund Policy

There is a current debate about the Royal Mail's policy on compensation for fragile items.

Some ebay sellers believe and have stated that although insurance/compensation is included in the charges for Recorded Delivery (up to 32); Special Delivery (up to 500) and Airsure and International Signed For (varying amounts) glass and ceramics, ie. breakable items are excluded from this cover.

There is much confusion about this matter and the Royal Mail is not always terribly helpful. An enquirer will get different answers from which ever post office they visit but usually the advice given, without any recourse to official documentation, is in the negative - fragile items are not covered.

Visiting the Royal Mail web site (royalmail.com) is much more fun! It is hard to use and several pages need to be viewed to get close to an answer, before giving up and calling Customer Services on 08457 740 740.

They consistently give the same answer but before you rejoice, there is a catch 22 in their official policy! All non prohibited, fragile items ARE covered for damage or loss, provided that they are properly packed. The cynic might, therefore, add that if they were damaged, then they were not properly packed and so no compensation.

For the ebay seller, substantial packing is important but it also helps to know RM's claimsproceedure. They do wish to inspect the packet and damage. I advise all my customers, that in case of damage, the item and the packing should be immediately photographed and retained for inspection. The seller/consignee files the claim with RM and the buyer will usually have to present the damaged kit to the local sorting office. (so, do not have the customer return the items to you at this stage). All being well, compensation then wings its way, slowly to the seller.

When the seller compensates his customer is up to him but he must. Under English Law, it is the vendor's responsibility to deliver the goods. Statements often seen on ebay such as "I am not responsible for non delivery or damage" just don't wash and are totally invalid. If a customer chooses to force a repayment through ebay or take legal action, the vendor does not have a leg to stand on.

My view is, grin and bear it. Provided the claim is genuine, keep the customer happy. Your trading reputation is too valuable. This may seem naive and, yes, there are some dodgy people out there but if you pack well, insist on using "signed for"/tracked

Ebay Seller Fraud Problem

All ways remember on ebay it is BUYER BEWARE, sellers are not regulated by ebay and ebay will not protect you as a buyer. if the seller is dishonest Ebay does not care so long as they get there fees. The dispute console is useless its not handled by Ebay , It is only for the seller buyer to handle . reporting a seller does nothing, Ebay does nort answer or do anything for you except send out prewritten messages telling you what to do. BEWARE of sellers and reduction sales or end of item sales.

Sellers like NORTH OF ST ANDREWS will not honor the refund or exchange.I sent back a broken buckle after they promised to replace it right away. They never replaced it.I sent buckle back signed for! They say they did not get it. post office says it was deliverd. This means sellers do not have to answer to ebay.

DO NOT BUY FORM CHINA OR HONG KONG . DONT TRUST BUYERS OUTSIDE OF THE UK OR USA.. They are not regulatedif at all.I think Ebay is aGOOD THINGhowever they are a buissness and they are here to make money not help you. It is impossible to through Ebay to catch a fraudster or a cheat or a thief. Dont take the warning of police use by ebay serious . They dont. You will have to do it yourself.. In the end it is up to you. Beware Beware Beware.

Ebay is loaded with dishonest sellers and buyer. We have been hit hard by them in the past. They will do it for a mere 5.00. IF you need the Law you must do it yourself. TheUK and USA will at least try to help. Remember all ebay rules and contractual statements can be argued in both direction on any problem (IE for or against any dispute) they are written so ambiguously. Thats how lawyers write anything most of the time. You must have all your proof irrfuteable in order to win your argument over an Ebay dispute and then there is no promise you will be compensated for your loss. Remember Ebay rarely pays anything.

Italian Post Company troubles

The following is for those who have bad experiences, namely item lost and parcel emptied on the way, with Italian Postal Service:Person No. 1.Since begining of this year I had three bad experiences with sending or receiving coins to or from Italy. First of all I must say that swappers were not responsible for these troubles, all of them are honest and serious people. The problem is in Poste Italiane.First package from Italy arrived to my post office open. Actualy it was phisicaly opened and rubed before leaving Roma airport post office, because it was repacked into a PVC package at that point. I refused to accept it.Second package never reached me. The sender sent an inquiry and I hope he has just got the refundation from the post company. Regarding the documentation I have seen at the post office when signing the inquiry, the package never reached the border interchange post office. The third package was sent from me to Italy in February. After sending inquiry, I received the package back, but broken and half of the coins were missing (not all of them). The whole package was repacked somewhere in Italy...I had no other bad experiences, although I swaped coins with many other people from all European countries. So I suggest to be very carreful when sending packages to Italy or when receiving them from this country. Pack the coins good enough not to be noticed from the outside and send the package insured (well, a bit more expensive postage...).Once again I must say that the Italian swappers are not guilty for these troubles. But guilty is the Italian Post Company (Poste Italiane).Person No 2.I would like to say that I had recently many problem with "Poste Italiane" too, especially (not) receiving envelopes, many got missed during last few weeks.I have heard, but have no confirmation, that many robberies are due to the new "anti-terrorism" scanners that italian mail service are using. The problem is that they (not all of them of course...) use the scanners not to check explosives or weapons or whatever, but to see if there are valuables inside the envelopes or packages. It is very easy for employees to see if there are coins inside, so they just open the envelope and steal the coins.Even registered mail is not 100% safe, and that's not good for us (italian swappers).Person No 3.Last year i got also empty priority letter it was opened nothing inside, and now this year i get empty registered letter, there was only paper about swap, i hope to got reimbursePerson No 4.I had the same problem too with a registered parcel about two years ago now.In Belgium it is really a big problem for much and much people too.Not only for the coins collectors but also for entreprises, tradesmen, compagnies, manufactures of all kinds. Moreover much of them use the privat companies now.The last conversation I had with a friend of the disclamer Belgian post service show that even the Registered and "Assured" letters/packages "disapper" since the end of last year.Long investigations and much works for the investigators of the postoffice and really few items found.By the way, I am still waiting for a Registered letter from Naklo (Slovenia) since seven weeks now. Investigation in progress ... but I think 7 weeks without news is really ... too much long.

how to spot fakes...... abercrombie and fitch

There is a hell of a lot of Abercrombie and Fitch gear on ebay and this is good as it is extremely difficult to get hold of in the uk. However because of this it is difficult to know what your getting for your money..

I have bought a fair amount of stuff and have paid higher than average prices tending to 'buy it now' rather than waiting for days in an auction and being beaten to it for the sake of a few pounds. I am certain that most of the items i have bought are genuine and also because they are from uk sellers that i have contacted.

I have also compared items to other items bought off the official abercrombie website for peace of mind.

I am hoping that someone will read this who knows a great deal more than i do about spotting fake abercrombie and post a comment. The only advice i can really give is buy from reputable uk sellers or from USA- if not dont be to disappointed if you end up with a Thai copy because there are plenty out there!!

Look out for 'sagging collars' as these should be stiff and stay up right, poor stitching , 'bobbling' on the surface of the material.

If you 'buy it now' expect to pay 20-30 inc p p.....these tops cost $49 so no1 can afford to give them away for nothing.

Thanks for reading and hope it helps!!!

Cosatto twin lunar pushchair

I love prams and have had several, i do prefer singles, but i am a childminder so need a double, i spent many hours on the computer searching for the best one. I came up with two the Mountain buggy all terrain with the swivel wheel this because it is from birth, is only 73-74cm wide and looked really nice to push. Also this cosatto lunar. I went for this as it was not quite so expensive.

I opened the packaging and thought oh no this looks boring, i wish i had spent more and gone for the other but since pushing it it has grown on me!

It is only 72cms wide so fits really well through front door, with shopping bags hung on the side. it lies almost flat, for new borns, it came with two cosytoes and belt cusions to keep them all warm and snug. i have a 6 month and a 2 1/2 year old in most times which they fit fine.

It also has a slight bounce on the back wheel when loaded with children, you notice it when going up and down kerbs. The other thing, i had a old maclaren twin before which i used to have to put my foot on the back to get the front off the ground for kerbs, this one you can just pull back with your arms, no need for feet as well!

I would recomend it, hope this has been helpful.

Xbox 360 Scam On eBay WebSite !! BE AWARE !!

If you know anything about gaming you will know that the xbox 360 will be almost impossible to get hold of this Christmas. In fact the only place you will probably have success is eBay. As long as you are prepared to pay.

This is fine as at least if you want an xbox the chances are you will get one. However, this causes a problem. There are scammers out there to fleece you out of your hard earned cash.

While browsing the xbox 360 listings I noticed an alarming amount of auctions simply selling a picture of an xbox or an email address or simply a web link. The worst thing was some of these items were bid up to over 300. Obviously there are going to be some very disappointed people out there and this will only damage eBay's reputation. However, the listings clearly state what the item is and some would say if you are stupid enough not to read the item properly there is no wrong doing. I would have to disagree as the titles are misleading and it is a scam.

So what can I do to avoid being scammed?

First of all make sure you read the item description carefully, especially the title.
Check the sellers feedback, if they have made their feedback private this is a sure sign of a scam. Also a low rating should be approached with caution.
If the eBay account is new be suspicious.
Check the sellers other items for sale. Most sellers will only have one xbox for sale. More than one could be a sign of a scam. Unless the seller is registered as a business seller.
Use the 'ask seller a question' feature. A genuine seller will respond.
Use PayPal for payment. This protects you as a buyer.
Use common sense. If it looks to good to be true it probably is..

As long as you are careful you should have no problems and you will get that xbox 360 in time for Christmas.

Good luck!

FAKING IT - How to spot the fake designer handbags!

Now, fakes are so good (and expensive) that you simply can't tell the difference.

So how do you know what's real and what's not?

Some clues:

The price. A new Louis Vuitton handbag for 100 isnot authentic. The real thingoften sells for 700 to well over 1000.Same thing for Prada and Gucci.
Where it's being sold. Authorized dealers for Chanel, LV, etc. do not sell handbags out of the trunk of a car. Nor do they sell themat online auctionsor at home parties.
Point of origin tag. Designer apparel or leather goods with a "Made in Taiwan" tag are not authentic.

Buying online

So what if you are shopping online and come across a great deal on designer apparel or accessories? How do you know you're getting the real thing?

Read the fine print.

Some Retailers or items for sale in an auction will lure you in with words that you're likely to search for like Chanel or Gucci. Many sites also use overkill -- "authentic," "genuine" and other enticing adjectives -- to describe their fashion items.

It's only by reading carefully through the descriptions will you see comments like "Inspired by..." to let you know that the merchandise isn't an exact copy (whichtheRetailersclaimgives them immunityfrom trademark infringement.)

Only buy the goods from an authorized dealer (a department store or a company outlet). Many labels sell directly to the public on company-owned sites such as Gucci.com, eLuxury.com (Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, etc.) and Coach.com.

If in doubt about an outlet, contact the designer directly and ask if you're buying from an authorized dealer.

How to Avoid eBay Scams and Fraud

Countless people have been scammed and defrauded on eBay. eBay is a fun place to bid on items and to sell items but you must know how to recognize a scam, and how to avoid them, them or you quickly join the ranks of those who have lost their money to eBay scams. Of course, if you are scammed, there are some actions you can take to correct the situation but in many cases, the scammer does indeed get away! The best option is to avoid being scammed.

You can easily avoid many scams with the payment method that you use whether you are a buyer or aseller. eBay owns Paypal, and in most cases, Paypal is the payment method you should use. First, as a buyer, if you are scammed or less than satisfied with the item when it arrives, you can dispute the charge easily, and demand a refund. The seller must reply and show proof that the item was shipped, and that it arrived in the condition that you expected, or Paypal will return your funds to your account.

As a seller, you can protect yourself by only accepting Paypal. This will eliminate the chances of receiving a bad check or having the buyer dispute a credit card charge. Instead, they must dispute the charge through paypal, and you of course will be able to prove that you shipped the product. You cannot, however, prove that the product arrived in the condition that was expected. In this case, you should demand that the product be returned to you before the refund is issued.

Another common scam that buyers use is the bidding scam. This type of scam is run either with two separate eBay accounts with one person in control of both of them, or with two friends with separate eBay accounts. A very small bid is placed on your item, using one account. This is followed by a very high bid, from the other eBay account. Right before the bidding ends, the high bid is cancelled or withdrawn, leaving the low bid as the winning bid. This bid can only be avoided by setting a reserve price the lowest bid that can be placed is the same as the reserve price that you set.

If you are an eBay seller, you can further protect your auctions by placing a notice on your auctions page, declaring that you have the right to back out of the sale if you suspect potential fraud. As both a buyer and a seller, also beware of spoofed emails. These emails appear to be from eBay. The email may claim that you need to verify your information, and ask you to login to your eBay account, using the link provided. If you follow that link, the site looks exactly like eBay, but it is actually a scam to get your eBay login details, as well as your credit card details! eBay will never ask you to do this. If you suspect a spoofed email, report it to eBay immediately!

Dont let scammers ruin your eBay fun! Just use good common sense, and a reasonable amount of caution, and everything should run smoothly. Report suspicious activity to eBay, and if a deal doesnt feel right, simply back away from it and move on to the next auction.

10 Reasons To Become An eBay Trading Assistant

Many eBay sellers are finding additional revenue in signing up to be a Trading Assistant. This program is beneficial to both sellers and people who wish to sell their items but, for reasons of time or technology, arent capable. When thats the case, they turn to a Trading Assistant to help market their wares. There are many reasons that someone may choose to become a trading assistant and, in turn, why someone would want to hire one.

Reason 1: When sellers become an eBay Trading Assistant, they increase their inventory without investing any money. The client will provide his/her items to be sold and the Trading Assistant will not have any out-of-pocket expenses for the new items.

Reason 2: If a business has a large selection of merchandise, it will attract more customers and generate even more revenue. The more variety that you can offer, the wider your consumer base will be.

Reason 3: As a Trading Assistant, sellers can earn extra money based on the fees that they charge. Selling someone elses product is a service and most sellers charge a fee for that service. As a Trading Assistant, it becomes your responsibility to photograph and accurately describe the item, list the auction and take responsibility for completing the transaction. Each Trading Assistant decides what fee, if any, they wish to charge their clients.

Reason 4: Each Trading Assistant will be listed in eBays Trading Assistant Directory, which will give added publicity to your business. And, best of all, its free!

Reason 5: If you take on the task of selling a clients product, and do a good job, then he/she will likely return to you for future selling needs. In addition, your client may refer his/her friends to you. Word of mouth, when its positive, is the best kind of publicity.

Reason 6: When you become a Trading Assistant, sellers may want to consider submitting a press release to local newspapers. Because its a new development within your business, its considered news. Press releases are one of the best ways to get free publicity for your business.

Reason 7: The eBay Trading Assistant program provides sellers with access to special training programs and other education reference materials. Knowledge of sales and marketing are always an asset to any business.

Reason 8: As a Trading Assistant, sellers can take pride in knowing that they are providing a service that is earning money for their customers. By signing up for this service, and taking on clients, sellers are helping people to earn extra cash while also clearing some space.

Reason 9: The Trading Assistant program offers a seller the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge in a wide variety of fields, including marketing, buying, sales, customer service, business management, order processing and fulfillment. Each of these tools are extremely valuable in todays job marketplace.

Reason 10: The more you sell, the more feedback you will receive. If the feedback is good, customer confidence will grow based on your reputation as a seller.

Now that you know 10 reasons to become an eBay Trading Assistant, Ill bet you cant think of one reason not to. Happy trading!

How to tell if a power tool is real

How to tell if its fake

1. The price if its really cheap it could be too good to be true, if no one else has bid for it leave it (except forretailers who sometimes get free of charge incentives that they sell off very cheap, but are still 100% genuine)

2. Ask the seller for the model number by asking seller a question then check it on the companys web site by writing the model number in the site search box

Such as:

http://www.dewalt.com/us/core/ http://www.hitachipowertools.co.uk/

http://www.boschtools.com/

Why not buy fake tools ?

1. The motor is not as powerful, very short life span compared to the proper thing, one of these drills will last someone who use the drill every day for a month and a half max (due to the poor quality battery cells used and motor)

2. THERENOT SAFE, many carry nosafety guarantee such as the CE

3. The battery life is tiny, due to quality not being part of the making process

SATELLITE NAVIGATION SYSTEMS. QUICK GUIDE TOO SAT NAV

HI THERE HERE IS A LITTLE INFO ON SAT NAV / GPS I HOPE IT HELPS THANKS FOR LOOKING

WHY DO I WANT SAT NAV?

Iguess that everyone has to ask himself or herself that question at some stage in the process, and it's as well to know the answer, if only to explain why it's more important to buy a GPS system than it is to purchase a new washing machine or some other essential that's a touch more fundamental to ongoing life. So what is the answer? Well it can vary all of my mates have got one, I am a serious walker or climber, I regularly travel on business, I'm embarking on a long distance touring holiday; I've got a boat and so on and so on. The reality is that there are so many uses and applications for GPS systems it's a wonder everyone hasn't got one already. Certainly once it becomes a part of your life you'll be amazed at how you ever managed without it. Let's try and work through the process What would I use it for? The uses for a GPS system are limited only by the imagination The fundamental property of a GPS system is to utilise the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites to determine the users exact position at any given moment in time. If that positioning ability is then coupled with software that processes the information all sorts of possibilities open up. Walkers and climbers can obviously use a GPS system to determine their current position; they can log that position and by use of a compass return to that same spot with a high degree of accuracy. It's worth noting that a number of GPS systems have a built in compass some even have a built in barometric altimeter! We'll look at some of those later on. Drivers can use mapping and navigation software to superimpose their position onto a map and through the navigational part of the software, determine the routing to another location. Sports persons can determine their speed and direction as their GPS system measures the time taken to travel between points and utilises software to make the calculations. Golfers, although not in competitions, can determine exactly where they are on a hole relative to the centre of the green or some other pre-programmed point. And so it goes on, the GPS unit determines the current position and the application software stores that information and uses it to make calculations that in turn deliver information in a format useful to the user.

There is a major decision that needs to be taken at an early stage in the buying decision process otherwise the choice will be overwhelming. It really relates around the hardware and software options that are available and the application you are interested in. Guide to the Different DVD Formats

These days, CD/DVD burners are standard equipment on almost every new PC. CD/DVD burners that work with discs that can hold 4.7GB of data, and may be used for performing back-ups and storing movies that may be viewed through consumer DVD movie players.

For some time, CDs have provided a convenient way for computer users to distribute data and back up hard drives, but the medium's storage limits of around 700mb per disc in this era of 400GB hard drives leaves much to be desired. So if DVD is clearly the way to go, it should be a simple matter to purchase a DVD writer. However, the industry is involved in a war of standards that is yet to be resolved, and early drives were very expensive with some drives costing in excess of 800, now high quality 16x DVD writers can be bought for approximately 20-50.

On the DVD writing side, there are two main competing standards. The standard known as DVD-R/RW (this is a combination of DVD-R and DVD-RW, note the minus in the name) is supported by Pioneer and other manufacturers and has taken an early lead. The other competing standard DVD R/RW (this is a combination of DVD R and DVD RW, note the "plus" in place of the dash), is being backed by HP and Sony and making a strong bid.

The situation is similar to that of the competing VHS and Beta video standards decades ago. But unlike the videotapes of old, the two main competing DVD standards are designed to create discs that may be read by most consumer DVD movie players. And both standards can read commercial Hollywood DVD movies, as well as work as CD readers and burners.

Both DVD-R and DVD R let you write a single time to a DVD (similar to CD-R technology). Once you use a DVD-R or DVD R disc, you can't write data to that disc again. Note that DVD R capabilities were not available on the first DVD RW drives from HP and Sony, and drives with this capability are catching up on the market. On the other hand, DVD-RW and DVD RW technologies let you write continually write to a DVD, just as you can to a CD-RW disc or a floppy.

A third DVD rewritable standard, DVD-RAM, runs a distant third. This technology is incompatible with commercial DVD players-data stored on a DVD-RAM disc can't be read by DVD movie players, or many other DVD drives. The only real use for DVD-RAM is as a high-capacity network backup medium. DVD-RAM discs are housed in cartridges and hold between 2.6 GB and 9.4 GB.

DVD-R and DVD-RW media, as well as DVD R and DVD RW media, are generally compatible with newer DVD movie players and DVD-ROM drives on PCs. At the moment, there are differences between manufacturers of different DVD drives, but acceptance of DVD discs by different drives will improve over time. This evolution will probably resemble that of the early days of CD-R and CD-RW drives. You may recall that initially, older CD players couldn't read all the media that newer ones could.

As with Beta versus VHS, DVD standards will eventually iron themselves out. The difference is that whether you choose DVD-RW or DVD RW, you should, in theory, be able to create DVD discs that can be read by most DVD-ROM drives and DVD movie players. And the more the standards evolve, the stronger this compatibility will become.

More recently there has been a trend for DVD Recorder manufacturers, notably Sony, to by-pass the whole "plus" and "minus" issue by producing machines that work equally happily with both formats.

The crucial difference among the standards is based on which manufacturers adhere to which standards. Similar to the old VHS/Beta tape wars when VCRs first hit the markets, different manufacturers support different standards.

DVD R, DVD R Double Dual Layer and DVD RW

Philips, Sony, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Ricoh, Yamaha and others support DVD R and DVD RW formats.

10 Brand New Mobile Phones for 10? Not a good deal!

It would appear that the following scam is also being used with xbox 360's, be careful!!!

Whilst searching for the new Nokia 8800 mobile, I discovered quite a few auctions offering large quantities of 8800's, N90's and various other new, expensive and highly desirable mobiles, at what seems to be a very good deal. If you take the time to search through the listings, you will see the genuine sellers of (for example) the Nokia 8800, are getting somewhere between 300 and 350 pounds for there phone at the moment, so a listing offering 46 of these, with a start price of 12, seemed a little to good to be true!!

These listings claim to take Paypal, that the 'phones are all with manufacturers 2-year warrenty, brand new, unlocked blah blah blah... BUT they also say that there Ebay registered e-mail is "having some problems", and that you should contact them on what is normally a net-based email. (yahoo, gmail, hotmail etc.)

This is when your first reply to an enquiry to something likeshipping cost, asks you for your full name and address "so we can start the shipping"

After several more mails, you discover that they will only take Cash posted direct, funds from Western Union, or other direct transfer system--WhichEbay has now banned, and when you ask what garuntee they offer you, they'll tell you "I'm an honest busines man, with a wife and too kids who I'm love very much, the money is meening nothing to me,I don't wanting any trouble with the cops"!!!

Things to look out for

Bad English grammer and spellings! (see above quote for example, this was a direct copy from one of these e-mails!)

"Blocked" e-mail address's

Strange mention of family members- most people keep business and private seperate!!

Sick relatives in 3rd world countries

No post charges listed

Payment instuctions different from listings, i.e. Paypal in "payment instructions" section, but money transfer only in description

Contacts through net-based E-mail's or websites

Pre-approved bidders only

Mobile phones listed in irrelevent catagories, such as childrens books or shoes (this usually means they've hijacked somebody elses account!)

Wholesale quantities of phones, from sellers who normally sell single, completely different small items

Options of how many would you like to buy?

Options of which phone you want to buy?

No information other than copy/pasted phone spec from manufacturers websites

Very few dealsare scams, and the abovedo appear in genuine listings, from honest, trustworthy sellers, but put all of these criteria together...........and your gonna get stung. Ebay states you should never involve yourself in an "off Ebay trade", just remember a little bit of common sense goes a long way, but more importantly.......

If it looks too good to be true, it often is!!!!!

JAH SHAKA SOUND SYSTEM

Jah Shaka Sound System, Club Minerva, Southend on Sea - Friday june 29th 2007.

"So it was in the begining so shall it be in the end"

Jah Shaka Sound System, formed in 1970 in London - still going strong. to witness a Shaka dub session is to have your senses assaulted with deep, heavy dub bass. I have never met anyone that has failed to be impressed with the vibes at a Shaka dance. Inspired by rastafari and King haile Sellassie i Shaka plays a form of reggae known as "Dub" or "Roots".. Never affected by the fashions of youth or the music industry, Shaka remains true to the beliefs of rastafari and spiritual vibes..

A Reggae sound system is an awesomely powerful thing, especially shaka sound. The Minerva a building which only holds a couple of hundred people max and had four stacks of speakers in it equalling 15k of sound! Shaka plays with a garrad deck from the 1960's and an array of analogue effects including syndrum and trademark siren effect with echo and reverb added for further effect. He favours a Garrad over a newer turntable as Shaka plays mainly dub plates (exclusive / one off mixes of reggae tunes) and apparantly the Garrad has a better quality of sound with Dubs.....

Shaka himself is based in South London and for much of the last 35 years has been known as "Jah Shaka - number one sound in London!". There are many other sounds eminating from London such as Jah Tubby, Channel one, Aba-shanti-i" all wicked and on a Roots / dub tip. For many though Shaka is the Originator and cannot be equalled. Many sound systems clash each other to improve their reputation or to prove who is the top selekta or sound. shaka himself has clashed many sounds over the years but has left this behind now and prefers to play sessions with just himself at the controls......

It was twenty pound to get in, dearer than normal but nobody complains because Shaka sound does not play in Southend regulary like he used to. We were witnessing a living legend on the Sound system circuit and nobody knows how much longer this amazing dj/musician will carry on playing. What always strikes me about a Shaka session is the variety of different people that attend, truly multi cultural, all ages and culture alongside, in unity dancing till four am in the morning... Any politician that preaches about integration in this country should attend shaka for a serious lesson! The venue rocked to the sound s of Reggae....

Shaka has an almost unrivalled collection of Reggae and dub plates collected over the years, so there is no shortage of music to be played. He has his own label "Jah shaka music" which has released dozens of records and artists, some home grown UK others from yard (jamaica).. Shaka is a regular visitor to jamaica where he records well known and up and coming artists. Also Reggae musicians and producers make music and give Shaka dubs to play on his sound - Shaka plays all night! It would be impossible to list the music i heard as i was getting lost in the occassion. Much of the music is "Dub style". Typically a hard nosed Reggae record with concious lyrics and then a instrumental / dub version. Sometimes three or four versions are played, each cut getting heavier and more manic especially as Shaka uses a pre amp which can cut the bass or top frequencies increasing the excitement to fever pitch. He also mc's on the mic and plays without interruption till the end. The crowd get in on the act shouting words of encouragement "Shaka Shaka!". as the evening goes on the music gets heavier and more exclusive, when attending a Shaka dance always stay to the end as the last hour is complete dub-plate mayhem..

I have been attending Shaka sound since the late 80's and was inspired enough to build my own sound system. There is much music in the world to play and hear but everyone should attend Shaka at least once, i can guarantee a positive experience and you never know, like me you may be inspired to take things a step further and play your own sound system.

"Shaka - number one sound in London!"

Payment - your money or your life?

Hi all, hope you're well.

I've never written a guide before so I thought I'd look at a few others before doing so. In researching, I noticed nearly every guide was about an awful experience, usually ending up with poor/fake/no goods and being out of pocket.

I too have been burned a few times but thought I would set the matter to rights upon payment; bury a few myths.

With regards to Paypal, I have no comment to make on its security or buyer protection scheme. I've never had my details stolen and I've never had to rely on buyer protection, so if anyone else out there can comment on Paypal as a whole, your comment will be a welcome extra to this guide. Please note: to my knowledge, this applies to UK BANKING LAW ONLY - US buyers, I'm so sorry but your banking laws are more in the corporations' favour than the citizens' and, in your country, if you get ripped off, you've very little recourse. My sympathies. This review is based on my experience whilst working in banking and liaison with the FSA (Financial Services Authority).

One thing I will say - I live in the UK, where the laws on credit/debit card payments are truly in favour of the SELLER. Chip and PIN, anyone? How is typing in yourPIN number in a store full of people EVER going to be safer than your signature? Because, if the shop accepts a dodgy transaction based on a fake signature, that's their problem, according to the banks. But if you let your PIN slip, your fault! Its all about protecting store profits. Same reason cheques are no longer being accepted.

I mention this for those with more limited budgets or, like me, a less than efficient handle on personal finance! Paypal have up to 180 days to claim payment from your account. Yes, that's right, 6 months. In all fairness, the longest they've taken with me is 4 weeks but, still, when you think you've some money and then a CD you bought last month suddenly eats your last 10, it can be a bummer, so watch out.

BUT: Fraud has one, inalienable right in the UK. Rarely published, as card providers hate having to do it, but... if you have been defrauded and have paid byCREDIT card, you can advise your card provider to freeze payment. The card provider can enter the accused fraudster's account until such time as the matter is resolved. This will require only limited proof on your part and cannot be stopped by either seller or their bank. BE WARNED: if you do this when it is not fraud - i.e. you're just a dis-gruntled buyer, your credit card provider WILL charge you. A lot. But, if it's legitimate, it's free. Note - the amount will not be recredited to your balance until the matter is resolved in your favour - i.e. you will still pay interest on it.

Now, for those clever ones who ditched their credit cards and use DEBIT cards instead, well done you and even better! You are entitled to ask the bank to make a RETENTION CLAIM. The bank will reclaim the money from the seller's account and put it back in yours - even if the seller's spent it! Their bank is legally obliged to refund you and then chase the seller for the money. Again, however, BE WARNED - if you do this as a disgruntled customer with no real argument, the bank will come down on you very hard. Worst-case scenario - the bank can claim YOU tried to defraud an honest seller and refer your account to the law (we are talking cases which stretch into the thousands here but it's useful to know the potential power the banks have).

Cheques. Same story. Yes! If you can set a good case for fraud to your bank, they can reclaim the cheque (even if cashed) via a retention claim, as above. So the buyer with the RADLEY BAG guide who lost 63 - as long as it's fairly recent (3 months I believe) you can ask your bank to run a retention claim on your cheque.

Postal Orders. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT! If you keep your receipt, which is the equivalent of the counterfoil on the old order, you can claim your money back.In disputed matters, by the way, if the buyer agrees to refund you after you've used postal orders, they are NOT obliged to refund you the commission rate you paid on the Postal Order, only the value.

Last, but not least - cash. One word of advice when it comes to posting cash - DON'T!!! Are you MAD? You have no claim, no proof and no recourse.

Thankfully, most buyers and sellers, in my experience, are pretty honest. But it never harms to be prepared. All the best and happy shopping!

post and packaging costs

i have noticed that a lot of buyers are annoyed at what they see to be unreasonable p

How To Price Your Items On eBay

Many new sellers dont realize how important pricing is when it comes to eBay auctions. Many dont even realize that pricing needs to be done. eBay is an auction site after all! But eBay auctions are not quite the same as the auctions you attend in the offline world. In fact, quite a bit of work goes into determining and setting prices.

Essentially, there are only three prices that can be set for an eBay auction: the buy it now price, the reserve price, and the starting bid price. Of these three, the starting bid price is the only one that is required for an eBay auction. The reserve price and the buy it now price are optional. The starting bid price is fairly simple never set it higher than 50 or so no matter what your item is really worth. This low opening price will get bidders to your auction.

Setting low starting bid prices creates the need for a reserve price. A reserve price is the absolute lowest price that you want to get for your item. You may sell the item below the reserve price, but you will not be required to. In other words, if you set your reserve price at 100, and your highest bid is only 50, you do not have to sell the item to the highest bidder.

You can close the auction without any negative feedback or repercussions. Set your reserve price at the absolute lowest price you are willing to sell your item for. Keep what the item is worth, as well as what it cost you in mind.

The buy it now option will allow you to set a price, and buyers can buy the item immediately, without bidding, for that set price. This option can be used for any type of item, and it should be set to match your reserve, give or take a few dollars. This option is great if you have multiple identical items to sell.

Shipping has a price, and potential buyers take this into consideration when they are looking at an auction. If you can see your way clear to offer free shipping, you will find that people are placing more bids. Make sure that your potential buyers realize that you are offering free shipping!

Before setting any prices, you need to determine what the item is really worth. The value of the item in different markets might be quite high. However, you are selling on eBay, and it is a different world altogether! Find out the price that similar items soldfor on eBay before setting any prices. If it is a collectable, or a high ticket item, have the item evaluated to ensure that you arent going to lose money!

CHEQUE PAYMENTS SAFETY.

A SHORT AND SWEET GUIDETO SAFETY. - NOT TO BE ABUSED.

(APPLIES TO UK GENERALLY - OTHER BANKING COUNTRIES PROCEDURES MAY BE DIFFERENT)

NEVER ENTERTAINCHINESE / NIGERIAN BIDS OR ADVANCE POST OR COLLECTIONS ETC! YOU ARE WARNED! GIFTS FOR RELATIVES ABROAD ETC (SCAMS!) NO MATTER HOW MANY MILLIONS IN PROFIT YOU THINK YOU WILL MAKE!

IF YOU WANT TO DEAL WITH THE CHINESEBUY FROM A VERY VERY HIGH POSITIVE FEEDBACK RECORD AND CONFIRMED PAYPAL ACCOUNTS - VERIFIED AND CONFIRMED - ONLY FOR BUYING NEVER FOR SELLING!

THE GUIDE

IF YOU COME ACROSS A BUYER WHO HAD TOO LOW A FEEDBACK ISNT CONFIRMED HAS A FUNNY ADDRESS NEGATIVE FEEDBACK ETC - OR FOR ANY REASON WANTS TO PAY BY CHEQUE ONLY OR YOU WANT TO ONLY TAKE A CHEQUE AND YOU ARE DEALING WITH A HIGH AMOUNT SOMETHING YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT CLEARING IN BANK THEN FOLLOW THIS GUIDE TO A SAFER ROUTE.

1. FOR SELLERS! - ADVISE CLEARING TAKES 16-18 DAYS THEN POST. THIS IS BECAUSE THE BANK WILL CLEAR THE CHEQUE IN 4 DAYS BUT REVERSE THE PAYMENT AFTER 16 DAYS IF IT BOUNCES . THEREFORE 16-18 DAYS IS SAFEST CLEARING PERIOD FOR A LARGE CHEQUE.

2. FOR BUYERS - MAKE A DIRECT BANK TRANSFER ONLY IN FOLLOWING CIRCUMSTANCES - TO THOSE WITH A BRILLIANT UNBLEMISHED EBAY FEEDBACK RECORD SOMEONE WHO IS TRUSTWORTH CONFIRMED AND VERIFIED BY PAYPAL FOR EXAMPLE OR HAS A UNBLEMISHED RECORD. OTHERWISE YOUR PAYMENT WILL REACH THEM BUT YOUR GOODS WONT ARRIVE.

3. FOR SELLERS - GENERALLY ACCEPT CHEQUES HAPPILY FOR AMOUNTS LESS THAN 20 AND POST WHENEVER YOU WANT ( WHEN ACCEPTABLE RISK) - THIS IS BECAUSE TO BOUNCE A CHEQUE COSTS 20 OR MORE AND EVEN MORE WHEN ITS A BUSINESS CHEQUE. THE BUYER WONT RISK BOUNCING A CHEQUE IF THE BANK CHARGES 25 EVERY TIME ITS BOUNCED. SOMETIMES ITS GENUINE SO ASK FIRST - ASK WHATS GOING ON?

4 - SELLERS - IF YOU HAVE A PAYMENT SAY FOR EXAMPLE 100 ASK FOR 5 CHEQUES OF 20 EACH OR 10 FOR 10 EACH (etc). BANK EACH ONE - IF THEY BOUNCE - THE FEE CHARGED BY THE BANK TO THE BOUNCER IS 25 EACH CHEQUE. THEY WONT TAKE THE RISK TO BOUNCE IT ON YOU AND YOU HAVE THE SECURITY.

4.2 - BUYERS - THIS CAN BE RISKY TOO - IF YOUR SELLER IS A CONNER THEN TO CANCEL EACH CHEQUE AT THE BANK WILL COST YOU ABOUT 5 AS WELL!

5 - ALWAYS BE SURE THERE ISNT ANY FRAUD - IF SOMEONE DELIBERATELY CONS YOU - REPRESENT/PAY IN (AGAIN)THEIR CHEQUES UP TO 3 TIMES AT THE BANK ONE AFTER THE OTHER EVERY TIME THE BANK SENDS IT BACK DO IT AGAIN UP TO 3 TIMES - EACH TIME IT BOUNCES THE BANK COLLECTS 25 IN FEES AGAINST THE BOUNCER (FOR ITSELF) THIS IS NOT TO BE ABUSED BUT WHEN CAREFULLY CONSIDERED IS A GOOD WAY TO TURN THE TABLESWHEN SOMEONE CONS YOU.

IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE IF THE PERSON HAS TO WRITE YOU MULTIPLE CHEQUES OF 20 OR 10 THIS IS BECAUSE AT LEAST YOURE COVERED AGAINST THEM BOUNCING A CHEQUE ON YOU OF SAY 100 AND ONLY BEING CHARGED 25. THEY WOULD TAKE THE RISK BUT NOT WHERETHEY WILL BE CHARGED 25 FOR EACH CHEQUE AND IT BECOMES EXPENSIVE TO BOUNCE.

HOPE THIS HELPS - I HAVE A COMBAT THE COUNTERFIET SCAMS AND PRODUCTS BOOK WHICH SELLS ON EBAY UNDER IF TIGER2000CORP - GLADLY BUY ONE TO HELP YOU AGAINST SCAMS.

GOOD LUCK AND HOPE THE ADVICE HELPED.

Making an Offer Guide

When making an offer be realistic about your offer, if an item is a Buy Now item of say 100 but has the option to make an offer for the item, then the chances are the seller is not going to accept your offer of 10 or even 50, the likely hood is that the seller would like to get as near to the buy now price as possible, as a guide I would say to offer about 75% of the asking price, if that offer is declined then after48 hours have elapsed and/or the offer is declined, then try 80% then 85% and so on, however, the danger in this concept is that someone may make a more realistic offer just after you and the offer could be accepted for them, that is all well and good if you was really unwilling to pay the winning offer amount for it, but can be really disappointing if you wanted the item.

The reason why we list most of our items as Buy Now plus Make an Offer is due to providing the customer with what they want or need in a very short space of time, they dont have to wait days on end to see if they will win the item, or if someone who really wants the item is going to push up the price or snipe it at the last minute.

Over all I believe that Making and Offer is one of the best things ebay has introduced, it gives the buyer and the seller freedom to both achieve their objectives. The seller is pleased because the item sold at an amount that they accept, and the buyer wins the item for the price they are willing to pay.

To finish up, keep in mind that making an offer is a binding contract, the same as bidding or clicking Buy Now. Please read ebayer terms for more information on this topic. http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/best-offer.html

buying using pay pal

I bought a item using the paypal buy it now but the seller was then later removed from eBay and my payment had already gone through. When i contacted paypaland explained what had happened they investegated and agreed i could have a refund but then went on to explain that as the seller had no funds available in his paypal account they could not refund any money. As the seller had been removed from eBay it was unlikely he was going to leave money in that account. I would like people to be aware that paying through pay pal does not always meanif something goes wrong you will get your money returned as a lot of people believe they will.

Whether working in a florist shop or working in your own home, there are often hidden dangers that you need to be careful to be aware of. One of the most important things to remember is that foliage and other plant material on the floor can be the cause of a lot of slips and falls. Keep the floor area swept as you go to avoid this, stems once stepped on often become slippery as the juice is crushed out and its like stepping on an ice cube. the other menace underfoot is cellophane - cut offs are also a hazard if stepped on and are sometimes not as easily seen as foliage!

Cutting wires is also to be done carefully, hold the wire down and away from others because as you cut the end pieces can fly off into faces and eyes. Be aware also of where pins are on the workbench there's nothing worse than gathering up pieces of paper and debris and ending up with a hidden pin stuck in your hand.

Glue Gun Use. When you get hot glue dripped onto your finger its instinct to rub the finger with the thumb and then it spreads and burns, I speak from experience! What I always do and advise students to do also, is to have a small bowl of cold water to hand so that if you do happen to drip the hot gule onto your fingers you can immediately put them into the water, this instantly turns the glue hard and prevents it spreading or continuing to burn, it can then be peeled off and the burn covered from the air, preferably with cling film.

Walking about with knives and scissors is also to be avoided for obvious reasons, espeically if you havent swept the floor!

Ladder work: Never over reach. Its so tempting to just try and reach that next important place rather than go down the ladder and move it a few inches over but its always the case that over reaching while up a ladder fixing arrangements in marquees or churches is often the cause of disaster.

While talking about that, and marquees in particular, you'll find that the floor is often very uneven, sometimes the marquee erectors place hessian on the floor or burlap and its bumpy and lumpy, get someone to hold the bottom of the ladder at all times, be aware than knives in pockets and scissors in jean belts are going to damage you if you topple, carpenter type tool belts are good for ladder work, or just put them on the top rung while you tie and arrange.

Try to arrive at a venue before the caterers -if you do drop somethingfrom a ladder, its best its on an unlaid table than onto one laden with china and glass.

Some plant and flower material is poisonous and although you're probably thinking 'yeah well who is going to eat them?' think how tempting to a child red berries are if within reach, or wired artificial strawberries for instance. Try and be aware that low level arrangements at a wedding or other festive occasion might tempt those who dont know better to cause themselves harm.

If you intend to work in floristry its important to know if your tetanus protectionis up to date also. Roses are grown in manure rich soil and the tetnus can pass into your bloodstream via the thorn pricks you will undoubtedly have, so make sure your jab is up to date, I think that 10yrs is the normal refresh time for it.

Sometimes nicks and cuts can occur when you least expect it so keep plasters in your tool box and with you when out decorating, think what a nightmare it would be to have blood from a cut on someone's wedding flowers, exactly.

Its fun doing floristry but there are hazards as with all trades and its a good florist's responsibility to keep the area they are working in safe for themselves and the others around them at all times, even when trying to beat the clock and rushing to meet the deadlines DO please keep safe and those around you.

For candle arrangements always give the customer a disclaimer card, it should say something like this: The candle in this arrangement is for decoration purposes only and is lit at your own risk'. You can be held liable if for instance you put arrangements on tables with candles and light them thinking how lovely it looks only to hear the sound of fire engines rushing to the scene when the guests have fired highly flammable party poppers across the tables.....ooops. Some florists even cut the wick down low so they cant be lit but I think this is a bit extreme. The customer should be made aware that it is for them to decide with agreement of the venue owner as to whether the candles can be lit or not, just leave it to them but explain the dangers.

These tips by no means cover everything, Id probably put you off doing floristry entirely and thats not my intention, but just take on board some of these tips and you can avoid a few common pitfalls. Oh yes and finally - dont touch the wedding cake! Let the caterer move it to the cake table and gently place your flowers, never say you'll put the cake on the table or move it once its placed, I wont bother stating why in case you get nightmares.

Happy Floristry and keep safe!

Feedback and why it does not work

Feedback the cornerstone of ebays system, does not work. Why, well take a buyer new to ebay, they buy 50 items at 1.99,plus postage say 150. Take the same buyer buys one car cost 10,000, who has the most invested in there feedback and who would you be safer selling to?

O.K. so you buy an item, I bought three items from a seller in New York, (I had bought from the states before with no problem) what arrived was on item and two pieces of junk, sent the junk back. There ensured a long wrangle, whenI read the feedback some buyers mentioned "extra gifts" that had been recieved, included in their purchases. As emails were being not returned I went to paypal, and left negative feedback, boy was that a mistake. The sellers now being chased by paypal left me negative feedback, althoughI had paid for the items. They wait for you to leave feedback until they do,therby if the purchase goes wrong they zapp you. My 100% record now with three negative feedbacks, complaints to ebay fell on deaf ears as do any complaints in my experience. Eventually I was refunded my money and I mean eventaully, we agreed to trade neutral feedback which was the only way I could remove the negative feedback. Again I wrote to ebay who did nothing. So what do I do now, well I do not leave negative or neutral feedback as itmeans the seller does the same to you. I asked ebay why the sellers feedback should have to be registered first or have say 30 days to register in other words as long as you pay the seller they should be happy, the buy would get 40-60 days to leave feedbackthis would protect the innocent buyer from fraud, but they refused to listen . So what are we left with a system that is flawed, you can as a seller sell junk knowing that the buyer has little chance of doing you harm, as if they leave negative feedback you retaliate with the same. Neutral is along the same lines. so we have a system that only really records the happy seller and buyer so a listof what you have bought. My feedback is around 60,I have bought a lot more from ebaybut will not leave feedback unless the seller has really pulled out the stops. Feedback

BUYING A REBORN

Well I did join a group and the help I got was fantastic. Not only are these ladies all working to perfect their art but are also willing to share the advice with others.

Well done all

DVD-9 doesn't mean pirated copies.. misconception

DVD9 (or D9) means Dual-layer single sided disc

DVD5(or D5) means Single-layer single sided disc

There are also DVD10 and DVD18.

The capacity of DVD9 is nearly double of DVD5 and can hold more data.

The term DVD9 and DVD5 are used worldwide.

In Europe, many DVD distributors put DVD5 or DVD9 in specification that printed on product (usually on back).

See examples below, French Studio Canal's Angel Heart and MGM's region 3 release of Silence of the Lamb

In China, pirated DVDs always emphasize their superior quality by putDVD-9 on front cover for years. As a result, Chinese consumers get used to this term and believe that DVD-9 means superior. Original studio release such as CAV Warner now also put DVD-9 on cover for their double-layer single sided disc product marketed for China in orderto please Chinese consumers. The termsDVD-9 or DVD-5 don't mean pirated copies at all.

The only way to check a disc is authentic or not is bychecking thedisc inner ring. The SID code (source id) in formatIFPI something, tells you that this disc is mastered by an authorized disc manufacturer. Pirated disc never carry a sid code.

Does it matter what you sell? Marketing Guide 1

Please remember to rate this guide. Thank You, Shaun1521

There are millions and millions of products available for sale on eBay. Hundreds of thousands of eBay sellers are selling exactly the same thing. What makes buyers buy from you over other sellers, who are offering the same thing. Price is proberly the first thing that enters your head, and to some extent you would be correct. But now as eBay ( as a company) begins to finish its growth stage in the UK online market, what will happen next? In this and the following guides,I will demonstrate some key knowledge about business and show you how to operate, develop and maintain your online Business on eBay.

Guide 1 - An Introduction to Marketing

What is Marketing?

MARKETING IS NOT JUST ADVERTISING !!!!!!
"Marketing is the management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirementsprofitably."

( extract from Chartered Institute of Marketing website, CIM, Marketing Glossary, Definition of Marketing)
Marketing is the identification of consumer needs and the matching process of those needs to the strengths of the business.

Marketing is the Key to any sucessful business. It is the core of the business operations where all aspects of your business is assessed in its ability to provide the customer with want they want.

The difference between Customers and Consumers

There are two types of purchase that an eBayer can make.

    A purchase for themselves
    A purchase for someone else

A Consumer is the person at the end of the chain, the person who actually uses the product.

A Customer is the person who is the the middle of chain, before the consumer, who purchases the product for another person.

From this simple explanation, we can already see that their are two different types of purchases occuring on eBay. Which group to you sell to? Who are your products advertised to ? Can your product be a gift for someone ? Already more opportunites are presenting themselves.

NIGERIAN PHONE SCAM WITH AN AMERICAN TWIST

purplepretty21 successfully won ebay item (Mobile phone). I received a paypal (now confirmed as fake) e-mail to confirm payment but only upon me confirming shipping details. This i did but still did not receive payment. Cathy Pretty is ebay user in USA who wanted thephone shipped to Nigeria for her boyfriend. Her ebay rating was 90+% . She was an ebay member since 2003.

No real problem I thought. Having now looked into it I can see i'm not the only mug!! Payment has still not been received. I have had Police visit my house to investigate.

Be aware of fake paypal emails especially ones listed as paypal usa. Always check your own paypal account for money received before dispatching your product. Its easy to get conned so just check all possibilities before you do business with people. Scam like this make you sick!!

Buying a Mobile Phone?

Buying a Mobile Phone on Ebay these days is an absolute minefield!

The obvious ones to look out for are the nigerians with an auntie abroad who wants the phone and they offer to pay direct into your bank, somtimes even offering more than your buy it now price!

Then there are the phones that are brand new and 'unlocked'. Most legal phones bought into the uk are sim locked, if they have been unlocked then they have been tampered with, do you know what youre getting? Sealed unlocked phones are often very very dodgy.

So you've found your perfect phone, when it arrives check a few things, is it EXACTLY the one in the picture? A common trick is to claim an insurance loss, photgraph the new insurance replacment and send the old one out. The problem with this (other than the fact youre not getting the advertised item) is that the phones are then being blocked by the network after the insurers tell them its been stolen or lost. This can take weeks, long after you've paid your hard earned cash.

Check that the IMEI number matches the code on the box, the IMEI is a serial number, often found under the battery or by dialling star,hash,06, hash, if the number doesnt match the box then its possible the phone is stolen and the box belongs to another handset.
Also dial: star,hash,0000,hash (without the commas), this will show you a) the software version, but most importantly b) the manufacture date of the handset. From this you can tell if the phone really is three weeks old or more like a year and three weeks with a new facia! (This may not work on all phones)

Finally if a new buyer with a seemingly english name wins your phone, check their paypal account is in the same name and not a nigerian name. A problem im having right now is a buyer who made an offer on my N70 which i accepted, he's a new buyer registered in Bedfordshire but has paid form his 'uncles' paypal account, the account holders name is nigerian, assuming this is all legitimate he further insists on collecting the phone, 100 miles to buy a second hand phone??? This is so he isnt traceable when paypal close the fraudulent account and take their money back off you leaving you with no phone and no cash.

Follow these steps and youre doing okay, if you have any problems threaten to issue small claims application which will incurr an automatic cost of 60 at their expense. This usually gets them mailing you back wanting to fix things. :)

Note: I am in no way saying all Nigerians should be avioded, please use caution and sensitivity when judging if your buyer/seller is genuine.

FAKE BABY LA COSTE TRACKSUITS

Beware of fake baby la coste tracksuits floating about on here, I was daft enough to buy one, but got a refund from paypal. I knew when it arrived that it was fake, because of the labels, the old labes were still visible. Another easy way to know they are fake, is look on la coste web site, THEY DONT MAKE THEM!!!!

So unless you are happy dressing your baby in fake gear, stay away.

I have only found 1 seller, but they were removed by ebay, then restarted again the same day, and I think they only sell these tracksuits.

Waterproof or Water Resistant Watch? What to Buy?

Q:What is the difference between Waterproof and Water Resistant watches? A: The amount of water pressure the watch can take. Prices differ greatly between Water Resistant or a Waterproof Watches. Which one to get depends on what you need it for.

Waterproof watches cannot take Any pressure but they're sealed enough to survive a shower.Water Resistant Watches are sealed to witstand some pressure.

Water resistance is tested under static conditions. Wearing a watch which is 50 metres water resistant in water will expose the watch to a much greater pressure than during a 50 metre static test. Therefore the number of metres shown onthe watchdoes not indicate the depth that the watch can be taken to.

Some watches show 'M' some 'ATM'- 1 ATM = 1 Atmosphere is the pressure that surrounds us on land. 10 Meters down, under water the pressure will be 2 ATM. Every additional 10 meters below water will add an other atmosphere. So on 30 Meters the pressure will be 4ATM (3 1) - Only a 200ATM Water Resistant Watch can take that amount of pressure!

Here is a general guide50M = Shower Proof - it's ok to get it wet a bit. 100M = Extended Water Exposure good for swimming or snorkeling. 200M = Pressure Resistant made for Scuba and Skin Diving

Scuba Diving Watches also have a One Way Rotating Bezel that only rotates counter clockwise. This is used to measure elapsed time underwater. -Turn the bezel until the dot is ontheBig (minute) Hand when you begin your dive and note the elapsed time upon surfacing. Must have as a back up for Dive Computers.

Q: A 100M watch is surely strong enough on a shallow dive?! A: No! It isn't because it has not been high pressure sealed. 100M watches are only good for Snorkeling! Q: What will happen if I try to dive with a watch that is less than 200M Resistant? A: The watch's seal will be broken, it will flood and break..irrepairably. Q: So which watch to buy? A: Think about what you need it for and bear in mind that Scuba Watches (200M) look really cool but tend to be very heavy, which makes them uncomfortable for everyday use.

Buying a game on eBay

Whether you're a harcore gamer who plays everything to hit the market, or someone who just plays one or two games every now and then, eBay is the pefect place to meet all you're gaming needs. This guide willhelp you on what to look for when buying a game.

There area fewmain things to consider when buying a game to ensure you get the best deal: the condition of the game, the reputation of the seller, what is included in the auction, and thepostage cost.

Obviously, the most important thing to consider is the condition of the game you're bidding on. Is itdamaged at all? If so, how bad is the damage? Has the game been tested? Auctions are typically pretty good about telling you about the condition, but if you happen to come across one of the few that doesn't, just ask. The "ask a seller a questions" link, illustrated below, allows you to send the seller an e-mail, which they usually respond to in a timely manner. If you're not sure about the condition and you don't get a response from the seller, don't buy from them. There are seemingly countless sellers you can buy from, so don't limit yourself to one if you're not absolutely sure you know what you're buying.

It's also a very good idea to know as much about the seller's history on eBay as you can. For this, just click on the sellers user-id (as illustrated above). This will bring up a screen like the one below. This tells you how many members left a positive feedback score, how many left a nuetral, and how many left negative, and what the perecentage of positive to negative is. You'll have to make your own decisions on who you're willing to buy from...I generally just look at the past few months from the seller to see how many problems buyers have had with them. If they've had more than one or two, I usually try to find another seller to buy from.

Next, you'll want to read what is included in the auction. Occasionally you will come across games that don't include the instruction manuals, maps, or the original cases. If this kind of thing doesn't bother you, more power to you, as the auctions will usually end a lot cheaper than ones that do included everything. If you are someone who has to have everything like myself, be sure and check the listing for such details.

Postagecost should be a major factor in your decision as well. Since it is actually quite cheap to ship a game, especially through Royal Mail, you shouldn't be expected to pay an arm and a leg for it. Generally, you should look for games that ship for around 2-2.50p. This amount pretty much covers the actualpostage cost, the eBay listing fees, and the Pay-Pal seller fee ( if you pay through Pay-Pal, which I recommend). If you happen to see a really good price with a higherpostage rate, you might look into it, just be sure to keep thepostage in mind as you bid.

Before you go bidding on any games, it's a good idea to do some research...check out what it sells for at your local game shops, or a different online shops. You might try looking on sites such as gamefly, gamespot, or any others you might find. Obviously, you're not going to want to pay more than any of the prices on these sites. Also, watch the way you sort your search results on eBay. I usually sort mine for the ones ending in the next 2-3 days. You can use the option shown here to sort by price, ending time, or any of a wide variety of options. This will be at the left side of your screen during a search. By sorting by ending soonest, you get a better idea of what the ending price will actually be.

Lastly, when to bid...the best way to win an auction at the lowest price is to bid during the last 45 seconds or so of the auction. If you won't be available at that time, just place your maximum bid as late as possible and hope for the best. If you can, just wait until there is less than a minute left. Be careful with this tactic, however, or you may get caught up in the excitement and pay more than you intended to. Just make sure you set your absolute max and don't go over that amount. Don't get caught up in the moment. If you lose, no big deal, there are plenty of other auctions you can go bid on. Just be a little patient, and soon you will come across a really good deal. Thanks for reading, and I hope my guide helped you out.

Alternative Livefoods

Just wanted to add my tuppence to the debate regarding the sale of stick insects and such as livefood.

I agree that a lot of insects being sold as livefood are not suitable as staples, however a little variety may benefit certain species, and you must not forget that people feed livefoods to mantids, scorpions and other pets, not just lizards.

I have kept a few species of reptile, andpreviously found myself trawling the fields with a net for something a bit different for them to chase. This brings with it risks of feeding bugs which have been exposed to agricultural chemicals, and I therefore moved away from this practice.

I have now found it is much better to produce your own 'variety' so you know where they've been, and have found fruit beetle larvae, cockroachesand the indian stick insect to be a good start. I also keep mantids, and anything which breeds fast enough and isnt poisonous can be fed to them quite safely.

I wouldn't dream of feeding these as a substantial component of my pets' diets, but feeding crickets, waxworms and mealworms (which incidentally are dangerous tosome soft bodied herps) is not entirely natural, and I like to reproduce the natural variety they would eat in the wild as closely as possible, in addition to the necessary staples.

To summarise:

- staples such as crickets, morios, waxworms, etc must (in the vast majourity of cases) form the basis of a health reptile or predatory invertebrate's diet.

- less conventional livefoods provide variety, and providing they are safe for your animals (people selling scorpions as livefood are taking the p*ss) are valuable in reproducing your pet's natural environment.

Bad Dog Breath?

Im talking specifically in this guide about bad breath in dogs, however it can just as easily be applied to cats as well.

Bad Breath in dogs can be the sign of Periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease is condition in the mouth that over time and without attention to it, break down all the supporting gums and bone that hold the teeth in place. No, not a very pretty picture at all, and it also causes loss of the canines teeth. The bacteria that cause this type of condition can get loose from the teeth and enter in the dogs bloodstream causing damage to the vital organs in the dogs body such as the kidneys, lungs, heart, and liver. With those kind of damaging results, its no wonder its dubbed the "Silent Killer of Pets".As periodontal disease progresses it is marked by bad breath in your dog.

The good news is that this can be prevented. Good oral hygiene for yourpets can become as regular a routine, as your daily brushing and flossing. Prevention is always better than cure.

I recommend:

Regular trips to the vet.

This may seem pretty obvious, but is often neglected by many pet owners. Really it is the only way to know exactly where you stand in regard to your dogs health today.

Watch what you feed your dog.

Monitor what you feed your dog, canned dog food (soft) has been reported as giving dogs plaque, that leads to tartar at very high percentages. Dry dog food is much better for your dog, in that it wears away tartarbuild up. Read my guide:

What kind of foodshould I feed my dog?

Brush your dogs teeth regularly.

This is a no-brainer if you have a dog, and want to prevent a serious condition like periodontal disease. If you find it hard to brush your dogs teeth use a product such as Oxyfresh Pet Oral Care to keep dogs breath fresher, and inhibit gum disease. It is added to your dogs drinking water, and because its odorless and tasteless, your dog doesn't even know its there.

Your dogs health is a very serious matter so be sure to give it the best care you can.

Is this Bisque Doll Head an Antique or a Reproduction ?

You are looking at a bique doll head and wondering if its really antique here are some tips to help you. They are not exhaustive and there is nothing that beats experience, but you should be able to weed out the obvious reproductions.

People make reproductions using moulds taken from the original heads - the original heads have fairly deep incised markings and these are therefore transferred to the mould and hence to the new heads. A good artist will always sign (and often date) their work, usually next to the incised copied mark check this first.

There are several ways of telling whether you have an original or a copy if it is not a signed reproduction.

First, nearly all antique heads are made of white bisque which is then completely tinted on the outside to resemble skin, newer heads are often made of tinted bisque, so if the inside of the head is not white (allow for dirt) then it is likely to be a copy.

Second, with experience you can tell by the painting that it is a copy - there are very few artists who can paint reproductions like the originals and they nearly always sign their work. Check on eBay for other examples of the same mould or same maker and look for differences; eyebrows are often a giveaway as they are very difficult to get right, the colour of the mouth, the colour of the skin, the cheek blush etc.

Thirdly, heads shrink when fired, so a reproduction head made from a mould from an orginal head will be smaller than the original - there are often size charts you can check.

I hope this has helped you please contact me for further information and Ill do what I can to help.

Things you never knew your mobile could do.....

Hi,

I found this information the other day and decided to give it a go and WOW it really works. Now put your wallets away because this is free information that I hope you will pass around as much as you can.

In times of grave emergencies

Your mobile can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. The emergency number worldwide for mobiles is 112, if you find yourself out ofthe coverage area of your network and there is an emergency dial 112 and your mobile will search any existing networks to establish the emergency number for you. Interestingly you can dial this number even if the keypad is locked.

Locked your keys in the car?

Do you have remote central locking and have locked your keys in the ignition? Dont call someone to bring the keys to you, simply get them to hit the unlock button whilst on the call to you. You hold the phone near to the vehicle and your cars unlocked. This will save someone driving the keys to you. This is not distance related either so you can be 300 miles away. This really works, when I saw it I had to try it!!

Hidden Battery Power!

Ever had that important pending phone call but your phone is beeping at you because its soo low. Well if you own a Nokia handset simply key in *3370# and your nokia will restart with emergency reserve battery power. All Nokias are built with this reserve which you activate with this command, and the reserve is recharged and reset the next time you charge the phone. This really works and gives an extra 50% power to your Nokia phone.

Want to unlock your networked mobile phone?

Just purchased a mobile telephone that you want to swap to another network? Simply call your network provider and ask them for the unlock code (NOT the SIM2 or PUK codes). This should work as most networks I have been with allow it as long as you own the phone. Never get someone off ebay to get this done for you as some charge 10.00 for something thats ultimatly free.

How to disable a stolen mobile.

Checkyour phonesserial number by keying in *#06# and make anote of the number in a safe place. If your phone is ever stolen simply call yournetwork provider and inform them of that fact and the serial number and the phone can be disabled and rendered useless. You may not get the phone back butat least you will have the upper hand with the thief who cant use or sell the phone.

How toretrieve your phone number.

Have you ever lost your mobile number? Just dont know it or have a new mobile? Dial *#100# and your telephone number will appear on screen for you to pass on to your friends.

Want an acurate time and date?

Simply dial *#103# and the time and date will appearon screen.

Now be sure to bookmark Electro-Books so you can check back on this guide as I learn more and more I will add the details here.

So what are you waiting for... Go try them out.

Thanks for reading

1) The sender will tell you of a fantastic opportunity usually regarding electronics.2) The sender is usually Chinese or has low feedback.3) They ask for payment through wire transfer and almostnever accept paypal.4) They may be pretending to be eBay and asking you to update passwords- eBya never do this.

Some are harder to spot than others, and some are similarbut it is always worth reporting a suspicious email to eBay through the help file or posting it to the community.

Finally, remember, if something seems too good to be true, it usually is.

buyers beware fake feedback and cheap goods

Dont know if you've noticed that there is lots of overseas sellers on here now all with dodgy and not normal names, theres a reason for that as there out to scam you and take your cash. Very easy to spot they usualy have very exspensive items for sale ie: at moment ive being looking at pionner avic satnav units for cars normally cost anywhere from 800 upwards but theese sellers only want 150 or thereabouts so its a scam instantly just have a look at the feedback of a lot of them, notice something about them. yes you've spotted it all from sellers or buyers whove sold bought e-books and thats how they boost the feedback up.

Have a close look at how they want paying no paypal then no good as its bank transfer or western union. Now can you see it all unfolding if its too good to be true well of the time its not and another scammer gets your cash.

always think first and try not to be egged on as we've all heard of the auctions held round the country usually in hotels etc and big adverts in papers like laptops from 50 more like a empty box with a brick in for 50 or who'll give me 600 for this 42"plasma tv. you get it home after waiting till the very end of auction and look in box, now guess what youve bought more bricks/sand etc. well if you want to buy bricks go to b

User tries to get replacement for item I DID NOT SELL

The user samsps1 contacted me to say that i had sent wrong perfume to her and would I send the one that she had paid for. I had no record of dealing with this "buyer", however I trawled through all my records (I also keep transactions in book form for cross reference).I could find no record after all this and duly emailed back stating this, surprise surprise, NO REPLYfrom SAMSPS1,thisuser was trying to con me to try and swap a perfume that she had obtained elsewhere and thought I would "hopefully" fall for the scam without double checking, therefore obtaining a Dearer Perfume in place of a cheaper one. BEWARE this ebay user ------ samsps1---------.

Reproduction Newspapers on Ebay

Many national 20th Century newspapers were reproduced in the 60's and 70's as free insertsfor various weekly magazines; usually these were to illustrate major historical events outlined in the publication.

The editorial content of the magazines consisted of various disasters or triumphs, especially the World Wars. The insertsreproduced were not only British newspapers but also foreign papers, allhad major headlines.

Also many national and localspecial editionshave been and are stillbeing reproduced for anniversaries of historical events.

Usually it is quite easy to spot a reproduction from photographs, especially if the genuine newspaper originally had a coloured logo and this is lacking,i.e in WWII the Daily Express had ared crusader and this continued post war, the Daily Mirror/ Sunday Pictorialusually hadred title letters, post war the letters are white in a red box.The Daily Mail had a red editioncachet or logo to the right of its mast head. Other titles often had colouredcachets e.g Stop Press associated with them eg. Daily Herald and Daily Sketch, but unfortunately not always.

Localnewspapersseldomused colour, so a coloured logo/cachet is a bonus, thereare also nationaldaily papers that rarely or never had a coloured logo.

So acoloured logo/cachetis a good indicator.

But to make life really difficultrecent reproductions sometimesinclude coloured titles (even occasionally when the original title was in black and white!), butthese are adifferent shade and brighterwhen compared to the original. They are generally produced in packs, with a common theme e.g. Royalty, Disasters, 60'setc.They are available for National Curriculum studies and also general interest. These packs are often to beseen on the e-bay site and are really useful for students.

For those papers that usually do not have any coloured markingsassociated with them, it is really difficult to decide from a photograph if they are genuine, especially early 20th century papers, also the Daily Telegraph, the Times, Observerand News Chronical, but there are still markers to look for.

Look at the centre of the paper, as many early reproductions were essentially photocopies so you can see an image of the fold mark of the original paper and this will disrupt the text on the front page and subsequent pages. Also the edge mark of the original paper is obvious as a black line at the top or side of the page, butgenerally this is something you can only judge with the papers actually in your hand. Likewise the printand paper quality cannot be judged from photographs, modern reprints are printed on much finer paper than the originals, which often appeardull in comparison.

If seller has lots of major headlinescheck them carefullyorif the photograph of themasthead is incomplete be suspicious.

Remember that papers produced in the 60's and 70'swill, bynow, have an aged look to them.

Some of the reproductions are not even in a newspaper format e.g. being seperate sheetsor the pages are out of order!

Some anniversaryeditions actually have "reproduced by permission" printedon them!

There is a place for reproduction newspapers, especially for teaching purposes. As a collector I avoid them, but it is so easy to get caught out from a photograph.

Also remember too thatthese were free with the magazine or special issue, so do not pay an exhorbitant amount for them!

I have always founddealers to be honest and quite shocked whenthey findthat the item isnot quite what it seems, but as a collector for 40 years I know what to look for.

I believe that there is something quite special about an original newspaper, as you are holding a little piece of history and reading about a unique moment in time!

I also feel that these reprints should be described as such and not passed off as genuine to the unwary.
